I am considering Crete's Western Division, and would like some information from drivers currently in that division please. I have some experience, including 9 years with Gordon Trucking, 2 with Interstate Dist, both out of Washington State, as well as some years of national time with Landstar, so I know some about the west, but want to get specific if I can about the miles, length of runs, type of freight, downtime (waiting) etc in Cretes's Western Division. I live in Phoenix, AZ area, and any info would be greatly appreciated.

well they take safety seriously,,had a bad bad wreck 1/06 and there reputaion,,well with d.o.t..there numbers look bad, so yes they are trying to up that, as far as caring about there drivers......hmmmmmmm they care about there freight...depends on your terminal,, i only have one mgr so im happy as for the rest ive heard good and bad about all of them...ppl get mad and say things,,,true or not ya know, call 1-800-998-9100 and talk to a recruiter..passengers only spouse or kids 18 and under, .good vacation package and ins. They have regional but depending on which area you want you may have to get in line.. Ive been here awhile but from what the new hires are saying ie: The miles...crete likes newbies...good luck!

  4. Wow! let's see if I can cover them all. Passenger policy: free rider policy, spouse (marriage cert req)and one child, or spouse, or child. (child up to the age of 19, birth cert req)(child under age of five must have spouse along) Training: 8 wks for a student, 3-6 weeks for a limited experience driver, and 2-4 wks for an experienced driver. If you have two years experience or more on over the 48 state you probably wont need any training time. If you feel that you need the train time for logs or qualcomm they will let you do that. Orientation: 1.5 days cramming session comes to mind, take good notes. Bonus: We no longer have a bonus program effective with the last raise We do have a recruiting bonus of $1000 ($500 after 1st ld or wk or something like that. 2nd $500 after 5 or 6 wks) I'm alittle rusty on that one guess I better review my studies. Hometime: out 3-4 wks at a time on National with 1 day of hometime earned for each 6 days worked. We have the National Fleet, the Wal-Mart dedicated fleets out of North Platte, NE and Bartellsville, Ok, we have other dedicated accounts and we have a few regional fleets: SE, Midsouth, NE, West We do not have slip seating, per se, but if you are out of your truck for more than 2-4 wks they will want you to turn it in. And vacation: 1 week after 1 yr, 2 wks after 2 yrs, 3 weeks after 10 yrs, wheh!!! hope I got your questions answered, hope I did not come across like a recruiter I am a driver/trainer and just wanted to answer your questions. (my disclaimer to hopefully protect myself from being accused of recruiting after answering all those questions)

  5. Good luck on that looking elsewhere deal. Freight has been on a decline for 2 years now and it will not get better in 2009. They hope to see improvement in 2010. How many companies folded up shop in 2008, it was in the thousands. Most companies have a hiring freeze, including Crete. They will only hire to fill a truck that is vacated. Sincerely, if you are unhappy here, I wish you luck in your job search. You need to be able to enjoy your work and make the best of the situation, I hope it works out well for you.

  6. I have heard that said many times, it is easy to suspect that since it would make economical business sense, however: I check with the new drivers I have trained and find that they are suffering the effects of the slow down just as much as the experienced top of scale guys.

    Hello all, newbie here.

I've read this extensive thread and have come to the conclusion that Crete is a great company to work for, but the last significant post is many months old.

Can someone comment on the current state of the company? Is it still a good bet?

I plan to enter school at a local community college at the end of the month and I'm trying to educate myself on all available options before I enter the program so that I can have a decent plan for when I graduate.

    Next question:

After looking through their website and reading over the driver app, I noticed that it asks for the last 5 years of your driving history. I've had 3 speeding tickets over the last 5 (non-commercial obviously), but I have taken steps to remove all points from my MVR. Will Crete care that I have zero points or will they be more concerned with the tickets? The most recent of which was a year ago.

Finally, how would I find out if my school is on their approved list. Is there a link I'm missing on the site, or do I simply have to call and ask?

    Thanks for the info!

You'll hear different but, I don't list anything that doesn't show on my MVR. That's what they go by.............
