Recently hired on at a company.
All I've read is hiring freeze this and driver layoffs that.
Freight is slow... freight is non-existent.
    Everyone fighting for scraps.

Currently employed. Easy job. Hours aren't the greatest, but I'm working.

    Question is...
Is this really a bad time to get back out here?
Honestly feel like, as things open up here these next few weeks, everything will explode.
Switching jobs in the middle of this madness doesn't seem like the smartest thing ever, but getting a job more to ones liking... IDK.
Is it really feast or famine or just overreaction?

My company said they had 30% drop in freight and got some drivers to take a voluntary layoff. They say some of the automotive freight might pickup next week. They said they are hoping they start making cars again. They said may 5 they were going to start up again. Then may 15 now I think say may 23. I don't keep track I don't do much of their automotive. I'm waiting to see when the bring back the 53 drives that took the layoff.

This isn't one of those jobs that would make a difference, or even show up positive/negative.
Something to get backing skills. Easy gig.
Kind of a personal refresher. Keep the skills where they need to be.

Of course they said that and screwed those drivers out of collecting unemployment.

As for the OP, wtf kind of screen name is that?

Tentative date on the first auto plants is May 18, same day shelter in place expires in Mi. They said it will depend on Suppliers ability to be up and running, beforehand. So far it’s all speculation.

If you are loaded and rolling thats good.

Yes it is feast and famine.

No you should not make a big deal out of it. You big hero trucker you.

I have seen many ups and downs in this life and this whole covid thing is for the birds. The sooner they eliminate the BS associated with it the faster we get back to what we were 6 weeks ago.

The dying is horrific. 30 hours from then to now is pretty #### near 10,000. Thats like at least a carrier's worth.
