Low bridge warning

Atlas has an awful lot of information in it. Buy an old one, doesn't matter much and you can learn what all the different sections are and how to put it all together.
I've got a company GPS, my old Garmin, hammer on my phone, google maps Arial view for parking etc. Plus 1 old altlas and the newest laminated one So I can wipe off marker my route when I'm doing a permit route...you might not do permit routes but there may be some runs you want to stick to for a specific reason.

 

Rand McNally Truckers Atlas would tell ya.

 

My smart phones pretty much knows where it is on the planet in real time down to a few inches which is pretty amazing.

There are times I got lost and would take a tall stick put into ground vertical. And a rock on a shadow it made.

Waited for a cigerette smoke 15 minutes later put the second rock on the new shadow location. Drew a line the resulting situation shows where north is in day time. Once i had north Its easy now.

That was my trick from the magic bag. IF you were in a forest, look for moss on the north side of a tree.

And the stars at night. The end of the big dipper points upwards to the north star. Plus its position rotates around the north star through the night in 3 hour blocks you can estimate your time to 15 minutes at cardinal positions up there.

 

Just take I35 to I45 in Denton then go all the way in.

What they telling you to do is not use Google GPS on your phone, which a lot of rookies try to do, even despite constant warnings. Don't do that. Always pay attention to your bridge height clearance signs.

There's probably something in the area that has caused other drivers a mishap or delay. Give the customer a call and ask if they know. Then you can look on a map and route yourself around it.

If you are going to use a GPS use a truck GPS, not the GPS on your phone, because your phone will think you are driving a car. They are expensive, but handy to have. Don't take them for gospel but they can still guide reliably most of the time.

Please tell us you weren't using a personal GPS before this...

 

What's sad about that video is that if he would have backed up just a hundred feet or so, he could have made a left turn out of there, or maybe even complete the U-turn there.

 

if your co. says "don't use GPS", somebody has hit a bridge.

ask for a phone number. may be a tricky place to get into.

I would always call to find out the "last mile" of route.

GPS can screw you bad.

 

I've only used Google Maps for 5yrs. Even had a truck that had 2 truck GPS units in it (truck owner is a nut job) and they constantly screwed up or tried to route me way, way out of route sometimes.

If someone has an ounce of common sense and knows how to pre plan their trip, take 45 seconds to look at the map and figure out their best route. They'll be just fine.
