Is there a way to bypass def if the tank runs out and derates the engine? I was in the vovlo dump the other day, and by the end of the day the def needle was on empty. Luckily I never stopped the engine after it ran out, but after I went to the gas station to get diesel down the road from the yard, I had to limp back home at 5mph lol.

I always filled up before 1/4 tank.

usually every 2 tank of fuel, whether it needed it or not.

I've heard of people who made do by dumping their "iced tea" jugs into the tank. Haven't personally witnessed or talked with anyone who has claimed to do it themselves though, so your mileage may vary.

I wouldn't put anything other than DEF in that tank. As of a couple model years ago there's an EPA mandate to have an actual quality sensor in the tank. Anything other than the correct concentration of DEF (give or take a couple percentage points either way) will throw a fault and possible derate.

Unplug the speed sensor and you can go faster than 5mph. There are a few downsides, though. Speedometer won't work, jakes won't work, my E-log won't switch to the drive line, and it won't let the turbo build more than like 10 PSI of boost since it's still derated. While loaded, the smallest of hills will slow you to a crawl, and you'll have trouble going much faster than 60 MPH.
