Ok men. I used to be with Schneider as an O/O for about 2 years. You can NOT survive on there pay right now with the huge truck payments. Think about it.

Don’t get me wrong they gave me a great inside look of how to run and I am on my own now for years.

This is a Insurance game if you can’t be insured your done. Period

While they may have loads can you make a living? Take care of your family? Not spend 300 day or more on the road?

I run a Reefer and did over 200 grand to the truck last year. This year I think I can hit close to it but not just working 220 days.

All my stuff is paid for. But I am really close to buying a 110 inch house truck from BOLT. I don’t want to piss and shower where others have. Maybe I’m stupid

Either way everyone be safe. Let’s remember that driver that most likely died and his family.

You next mile may be your last/worst

The truck payments are really nothing to me because my expenses are real low. The only monthly payment i have are my car and phone. I dont own a home yet(still saving for it). Normally i just bum off family n my GF when i'm not driving. I think this is the only way to make this program work. I dont how anyone else can look a program like this and think its a good idea unless you're a free spirit not beholden to anything. Youre right about the insider experience on the o/o perspective though. If i didnt have a truck payment like @Opus, i could be making bank. There are times i debate on what the next step should be, buying a used truck or finishing the. Lease. The plus side to finishing the lease is that i will have truck maintained to my standard but buying a used truck would mean MUCH lower payments but the maintenance would have suffered. I have never had any major probs with the lease truck for 2 years now and i dont want to buy a lemon.

Well, everyone has to start somewhere.
Both @CaptainDaveG and I made those payments and we won.
Maybe our military experience helped us to focus and drive on. Maybe we both just got lucky......but I doubt it.
Perhaps the fact that we're both older and don't really have a young family to tend to helped as well.
But the long and short of it is, we both did it and we were both successful.

Yeah, you can still win in this environment, but you have to be totally focused on your business and nothing else. I look at what I've run this year and take away $1000 from that result and I would have been positive every week but 1.

My point is exactly this.....Captain Dave, @Dave_in_AZ and I weren't given paid off trucks and an intimate knowledge of the freight business......we WORKED at it. We were all patient and took our lumps along the way. In my opinion, this is how it's done.
You must set a goal and work towards it. You can't just jump in and expect money to fall from the sky. Its a 24/7/365 endeavor.

    Good luck all

This will be different for each person. I have a pretty aggressive CPA. The tax owed isn’t on the 200k. You have to deduct expenses first. My operating expenses before depreciation is right at 50%. There are all sorts of ways to avoid taxes. I own a holding company that leases the truck back to the trucking LLC. Get a great CPA

Because that's not realistic. They make that in REVENUE on a good day but not take home.

Over the years i have met drivers that claim they pay 0 to little in taxes. Eventually i have followed up with them and in the end they end up owning all those taxes they didn't pay. Just becareful. There may be some way around it but be sure it's legit.
