Removing collision avoidance

Pray you never have a serious crash. Does not have to be your fault, it can be the drunk driver with a suspended license, or never had one at all, driving the wrong way on a divided highway. Attorneys will successfully argue you disabled a safety device the might have prevented, or limited, injuries to the other party. It sucks, but that is the world we live in.

 

Agree, but in the two years I’ve been driving my truck with that #### thing installed in there it went off about 95 times and never once out of all 95 of those times was there ever a near collision. Not a single one. All this crap they’re putting on trucks these days is what’s going to cause the accidents.

 

The best solution is.. don't buy a truck with that crap on it . I know... It's getting harder and harder to find one without that garbage. But they are out there. It took me 2 months of looking but I finally found a decent truck without that radar junk.

 

Definitely flawed technology. I can see how it could end up contributing to a crash also, but the big money is behind having this crap on the trucks. Plaintiff's attorneys (the big billboard guys typically) know exactly what to look for to put blame on the drivers and companies. There are many things wrong with this industy, the misuse of technology, and how the legal system works against the drivers and companies.

The only way around it is to get a truck that does not have these systems factory installed.

 

I had an old driver probably pushing 70 years old tell me when I first got started, if you EVER get into any type of crash, fender bender etc where DOT, troopers etc are going to be involved, he Said the very first thing you do and you do it immediately before you worry about anything else is a grab your phone and reset it to factory settings and delete its entire history. Because he said they will take your phone and pick through it and find out 15 miles back up the road you might have pushed the Pandora button once. And that’s all they need to put at least a high percentage of the crash blame on you. Even if it was completely unrelated to the actual crash.

I knew a guy who was involved in a fatal crash. Some punk kid failed to stop at an intersection and came barreling through it 40 miles an hour and hit the back of his trailer. He died. Four years later they found him “15% responsible“ for the crash. He said this day he still doesn’t know how they came up with 15% but that’s what they agreed upon. Based on that 15% the deceased family was able to sue and get a settlement for over $1 million for the loss of their punk kid.

Drivers get blamed for everything! You have to counter this by protecting yourself at all times!

 

Even resetting the phone won't clear evreything these days. Much of what you do is recorded to Google's history, and iCloud if you are on Apple devices. Guys worry about ELD's and privacy, they should worry about their phones and tablets.

 

Good thing I have a dash Cam I guess?? But I'm still getting rid of this crap... especially when I was told by freightliner the system works 100%, I've been fighting with my dealer about it already since new, so I have info that they have worked on it and still cant find why it's not working 100%. My last truck had nothing on it a d no problems so why would u need it on a new truck, if it doesn't work.

 

What would be nice is if they were like cars. You can shut it all off with the push of a button if you want to. I have a Chevy with all that crap in it, but i have buttons to shut everything off. Build them like that & let the companies disable the on/off switches.

 

A big 10 4 on that...

 

I'm pretty sure you can pay a shop to disable it. Probably not a dealer....

Unplugging things just begs corrosion in the plugs.
