My husband just heard on XM Radio channel 173 that new laws will soon be in effect as follows: If you do not have a 2004 or newer truck that you will have to get rid of it and buy a newer truck. Can anyone tell me if this is true. This has to do with the EPA rules. Is this National? Thank you. Deb

Read something about this in Landline mag...I was pretty sure it was CA...will try and find the article....

I believe it's just CA. I may be wrong though.

Sounds like Cali. Waiting for them to try and stimulate their economy by making everyone who lives in a house built after 2004 to have theirs torn down and build a new, "greener" home.

Thank you everyone. With the economy so tough out there, it is hard enough to pay bills, let alone having to update our 1997 International Cabover with a newer engine. I know deep down that California EPA laws will spread across the country soon enough.
Be safe out there.
God Bless

Deb,
I am sure it is cali with their so uptight Carb ratings. What model is your intl cabover?

Let them starve, i hate going to that state anyway...

I hate my birth state as well.... And at this time I'd continue hauling in & out as long as the freight rates satisfy my demand. But when they implement that new law about engines & trucks.... Then my butt will stay out. I'm not replacing or making alterations to my 2001 Peterbilt just to make those green global warming believers happy. They can come get their freight.

It's CA and only at the ports, right now. It's a line of cr*p that the powers to be had to take to finish their construction or lose millions of dollars. They failed to make the clean air act and the EPA was going to put a stop on all construction unless they came up with a better plan. So the fastest and most effective way for THEM was to control the emissions from the trucks going in and out of the ports.
The sad part is that most of the container haulers are trucks that have seen their day OTR and are now running local to get the last dime out of the tractor. They went after the trucks for emissions because is was their only way to kept a muti-million dollar refit working that was half way completed. So you know there wasn't all that much thought put into the plan.
The other requirement is statewide and will require trucks by the year 2014 to have soot filters and by 2023 no truck will be allowed to run if 13 years or older.
The Air Quality Management District that is controlling the ports does have a program in place that can give funds to companies or owners for REPLACEMENT of trucks and it's $50,000 for pre-2004 and $100,000 for pre-2004 if the truck is set up to run on alternative fuel like natural gas. I don't think Bio-Diesel will qualify. So it does look like they are trying to help but I don't know how many or if any grants have been awarded to date. So I think everyone is getting all excited other nothing. By 2014 I'm sure soot filters will be a bolt on addition and will not break the owner especially since they know so far ahead of time. -
Just for curiosity, don't you have a better picture of your truck? The one in your avatar
