Brokers do all the time, one of the reasons I won’t work with a new broker unless they are paying upfront.
Such as?
Brokers are thieves!!!

one being cost effectiveness of maintaining the trucks, the other being taxes, the other being cost of insurance for new startups.
there isn’t such issues for brokers. I have yet to hear any of the brokers I know personally complain about the $ they are making even in these bad times. In the 20 plus years I have been around this industry I have yet to see any brokerage firm go out of business. Even in 08, so no brokers do no go out of business at the rate of truckers do.
It’s often opposite as more brokers get in the rates tank even worse.
However I just say the few double brokers I know personally are complaining a little because they went from 15-20k a month to 10-15 a month during this crisis.
As for brokers failing, not paying doesn’t mean they failed.
Fly by night operations are easy to start, way to easy, that’s why you require payment upfront.
In fact if a broker doesn’t pay they can always get a new brokerage started within weeks after scamming truckers for 2 months. -
Plenty of brokerages going out of business. Do you know how many recruiters I've had in my LinkedIn over the past month and a half checking to see if we're still working, and offering me to interview for some other company or other?
It's a lot. You just hear less about it because it doesn't have the same news hook as "Trucking company who's been in business for x years with forty employees shutters the doors!"
The average person gets a trucking company. Do you know how many times I have to explain that I'm not a dispatcher to the people I meet? My wife's friends *still* think all I do is dispatch trucks, and these are all smart, educated professionals in their various fields. And it's not from a lack of proper explanation. I teach and train our new hires, I'm prettttty good at breaking this down. It's just a weird concept to people who have no clue of how the various parts of this industry function and interact.Midwest Trucker, Long FLD, p608 and 2 others Thank this. -
Pretty sure half the people here have no clue how a brokerage works, they seem to think there's no cost involved at all.Midwest Trucker, Long FLD and FoolsErrand Thank this.

Ha- over a million a month in outbound payables- before we start talking staff salaries, commissions, insurance, bond, TMS- our last update cost $110,000- load board subscriptions for 15 people, other miscellaneous expenses... it adds up.larry2903, Nostalgic, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this.

But they know for certain that's who is making them run below cost!
PPLC Thanks this. -
No one is "Making" anyone do anything, don't blame others for your mistakes!

Who is that aimed at?

Pretty sure @FoolsErrand was being sarcastic, man. He's got a pretty thoughtful approach to how this business operates all the way 'round the bend.FoolsErrand Thanks this.
