R. E. West doesn't have a contract.
This company does hire Texas drivers that already have a cdl, but not sure they hire students from Texas.

Dot Transportation has a "warehouse to driver" program where you must work in the warehouse for a few months, then they pay for cdl school and you become a driver for DOT.

Labatt Foodservice has "Commissioned Driver Helper" program which consists of starting as a driver helper and graduating to a CDL-A driver.

 

Nothing wrong with a contract. This provides training and a job. Millions of unemployed would love to have a contract to work these days.
Trucking companies want students to have some skin in the game. They were getting ripped off with drivers completing their cdl schools, then quitting to go somewhere else and laughing on their way out the door.
I'd sign one in a heartbeat to work for a company like FFE.
