I have one parked I NC somewhere that has the same problem and after 30k of trial and error I got a KW
I changed MCM,sensors both can and crank 15 times harmed 2 changed 3 times tested (just waste money at dealer ),did a DEF bypass because someone recommended it I also ended up doing a overhauling and still missfires
But please be careful and don’t go to dealers it’s pointless
BTW if you figure it out post it here just so I know what the #### was it all about because it still hurts

A technical support friend from Detroit told me he was 90% sure it was a bent tone ring if timing was correct. Well my problem was crankshaft timing both intake and exhaust were 1 tooth off. Fixed and voilà.
Pump does have a timing, so if someone changes the pump make sure to address timing procedure.
I made sure timing sensors were replaced to have no doubts...
Thanks guys!AModelCat Thanks this. -
Usually caused by bent tone ring or someone assembled out of time. The intake cam has a tone ring for the sensor to read. The pump timing should not throw codes for timing.

Did you figure out what was going on? I'm having same issue, had clutch replaced and truck throws codes and starts smoking and shuts down.

The first time you wrote fmi 11. The second you wrote fmi 3. If it's fmi 3 that indicates an open circuit and you most likely have a bad harness.

That always confused me since the whole point of a common rail system was to eliminate the need to time the pistons in the pump with the opening of the injectors. I finally came to the conclusion that it must be just a bad German translation. I think what they mean by "timing" in the documentation is that you have to position the oil deflector plate on the fuel pump gear just so or it won't allow the gear to mesh with the gear train during installation. I think that's all it means. I don't think the position of the fuel pump pistons have anything to do with the operation of a DD15 engine. Am I missing something?

I have a 2012 cascadia. I had a shop turn the flywheel and replaced the clutch, I'm having similar problems, truck codes 636, 723, then blows white smoke out the exhaust , then it codes out for all the injectors and dies. The worst thing is the shop is washing there hands of it. now I have to have it towed out of the shop.

Have you checked the crankshaft position sensor? It's right there where a clumsy mechanic might unplug or damage it during a clutch job.

I don't know why the image of the sensor location isn't showing up. Here's a link to it.Last edited: Jun 15, 2022
armo Thanks this. -
They checked it and i went ahead a bought a new sensor and still the same thing is happening. I crawled under it to test if there was power at the plug and realized they stripped the threads holding it in.
