Hello all.
Ive been going to classes to get my CDL-A.
Ive been filling out online applications for any company that says they hire student drivers.
Everything is going great, and I do my road test this Friday.
Now the bad part...
In Feb. of 2009, I hit some ice on the highway, and spun into another vehicle.
The state trooper gave me 2 tickets, too fast for conditions, and improper lane usage.
Everyone I have applied to and I havent heard back from, I started calling today to check on the status of my applications.
Roehl, and Werner both wont take me because I have the accident on my MVR. They say I can call them in 3 years.
I guess the past 25 years of safe driving mean nothing?
Anyway, are ALL companies not going to hire me because of that accident?
Do all companies look back over the previous 3 years?
Does anyone know of any companies that wont hold 1 accident in the past 7 months against me.
Now I dont know what to do...
Ive been unemployed for 7 months.
And I thought getting my CDL would almost guarantee me a job until this accident thing reared its ugly head.
Any advice would be a huge help.
Thanks everyone.
SD
About to graduate, got 1 ticket, no-one will look at me!

Should have fought the tickets.
Both of them are not good to ever get whether in a personal vehicle or a commercial vehicle. -
Both tickets imply reckless. Where did you strike the vehicle? If it was in the rear, that is super bad as far as insurance companies are concerned.
-
Wait for the tickets to get cleaned off your record and flip burgers for a few years. Really the only choice you have. Companies won't hire newbies with perfect records and employment history. Why should they hire you with an excess amount of experienced drivers with perfect everything?
-
What about heavy eqipment drivers? Like backhoe or dumptruck...I know its not what your looking for, but would they be more likely to hire you? Then when record is clear try again? Better than flippin burgers...Or what about a dispatcher or something that could get you in with a transport company, learn all their ins and outs, and then try getting on as a driver.....
Just a thought.... -
Hello Sadonovan
If you don't mind, what school did you attend and how did you fund your training?
Honestly, they should be assisting you with job placement!!!
How many miles over the posted speed limit was that ticket?
Best! -
Honestly, as much as I liked Werner... if they won't take you...
Um, FFE?
Florelli? I don't know if they hire students but I know they hire fast, as in next day fast.
CR England might consider you, dont lease. -
I am kind of the same boat. Two weeks ago I graduated from a driving school, and because of two minor traffic violations (one was 10 miles over speed limit on an exit ramp, the other was for insufficient space), and one minor fender-bender, no company will hire me, or even look at my resume. BTW the fender bender was under unusual circumstances as I had stopped to far in an intersection and was backing (hence the insufficient space ticket), up so to let the commercial vehicles turn safely. Unfortunately for me, the mercedes driver didn't see me back up and I lightly bumped him. Still an accident is an accident, but the last thing I want is for my CDL to go to waste, so I've been looking at driving Class 1 and 3 dump and cement trucks for a couple of years until the violations are out of my abstract.

Hello Drdoc
What school did you attend and how did you fund your training?
What do they have to say about this???
I am so mad that any school will take a student with a record that THEY know will not fly!!!
My school offers job placement and won't accept any student w/o pre-hire or pristine record and background. No sense in wasting their time, the students or the WIA program funds to train someone who cannot utilize their CDL.
You should post about this school to let other potential students know what they are about.
This is sad for you, I am sorry that your expectations were built up, just to hit a brick wall, in essence, once you graduated.
Btw, where are you located?
Best to you! -
This is not good advice. This is not what you should do. But, there are small tiny teenie companies out there. They may or may not care about those tickets. Just saying................Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do.
Good Luck, and Be Careful......
