Graduated basic, sitting at AIT in hold under status for a week until training resumes. Got 3 squares, a bunk and a steady paycheck... not much more I could ask for at this stage, TBH

I think the engine overspeed code sets at 2800 rpm.
It will still record this rpm max that you accomplished. I saw on the Detroit site one that came apart at 2850 rpm. So you cut it pretty close.
If it still runs fine you're probably okay.
The cam lobes can slip on the shaft at high rpm and throw out the timing of the valves. Some times minor amounts causing emission problems, some times a lot causing valves to hit pistons.

    skellr and Jdm5jdm5 Thank this.

2200, by default, that engine mated to the DT12 will use the engine brake at up to that rpm.

Overspeeding to 2300 might send a notification to a terminal somewhere and you get called nasty names by the shop when they get the nasty gram from the lease company.

I don't worry until it gets to 2100 on the one I drive, and that nastygram was a 1 time occurence, honest.

With the N14, I was told 2200 on that, too.

Have actually had a valve drop in one of those, once, while it was idling, made quite the noise.

The fly wheel on my 14 liter Detroit says not to exceed 2400 rpm.
