There is a huge difference between SHOWING it for verification, and COPYING, or otherwise recording it? That's what I have a problem with, letting people who don't know me and don't have a valid legal reason to capture my information to use in any way....

How do they prove they verified the cdl?

Again, just giving a potential reason for the policy. Not saying I agree/disagree/anything.

Personally, I worry more about data breaches than security logs.

I wonder how we can track the people who have had the ability to make copies of our ID's? How would they react when we asked to take a picture of THEIR ID?

It's the same thing.... you can copy mine if I can copy yours.....

You absolutely don’t have to give anyone your id, even law enforcement. But the shipper doesn’t have to allow you past the guard shack. Remember, their property, their rules.

And if their rules aren't legal?

Well, what is illegal about them asking? Where is the law?
Because, to be honest after a (very) short search it seems like it's not illegal. It's recommended not to give it out of course, but it's also not illegal for a company to ask.

They don't work all that good, they are limited to what they do and don't/can't do.

Lifelock becomes an additional cost heaped on the driver, once more. But don't worry, "it's included in the rate".
