When I was with Crete and Shaffer, I did try both divisions. I averaged more miles with Crete running dry van than I did with Shaffer running reefer. With the pay differential being a tad higher per mile with Shaffer, the overall pay between the two divisions was virtually identical. I have an old thread comparing the two. Most people would choose the dry van route if they realized the net pay was virtually the same. And my experience was a higher percentage of multi-stop loads on the reefer side.
