I have concerns with the slip seating mainly, not a big fan of sleeping on a community mattress. I have been self employed most of my life so I don't know how well being micro managed would work, but that being said, I was looking at 5 years or so before I hang up the keys, so it may be bearable.

There is less micro-managing that I've experienced/seen at WM, than any other trucking job I've had. Hell, less micro-managing from just about ANY job I've had. And yes, that completely surprised me.

Slip seating..yea I can see the hesitations there. But having big brother looking over your shoulder telling you what to do and when to do it...doesn't happen at WM.

You and me both. Been an owner op 23 years. Not crazy about a boss or slip seating also. But if I could handle I could put some green backs away towards retirement. Maybe one of those plastic covers on the mattress.

    truckdriver31 and DrFlush Thank this.

I was thinking along the same lines, but my wife has a NYS retirement and we have land in Tennessee, so we were looking at doing a year here in NY and then trying to transfer to a DC near our Tennessee land.

Yeah I don't think I could deal with the slip seat matress dealio. Sounds like these guys must have lived in a submarine at some point. Considering how nasty your average driver even looks, um yeah, nope.

Why not give each driver their own air mattress or something that they put in a locker at the dc when they go home?

    Oh, that would cost money.

I heard their doing that now, issuing each driver with a plastic cover, then you can take it home and wash/disinfect it. So that and rubber gloves you should be safe enough.;)
