First of all, I'd like to say thanks to everyone that posts on this board. I've read everything from what to expect, what to take, what not to take, what companies are good, what companies to stay away from, training progress reports, how to save money on the road, but most important, how great of a company Millis is and how they treat their drivers. I'm starting my training in Richfield on November 2nd. It's still 6 weeks away and I'm really looking forward to getting started.

I've been putting this off for many years now. When I was younger I used to ride endless hours with a buddy of mine hauling logs in Northern WI and MI; trying to get them to the mill before spring break load limits were posted. Even as a kid, my brother and I had walkie talkies with ch 19 chips put in so we could chat with the passing truckers. So it's been a long time coming. I'm 44 now. My kids are grown and I'm tired of of sitting in a cube writing software, listening to Convoy and Wolf Creek Pass on the iPod. I expect to take a hit in pay as a rookie but hopefully this will get better and I'll be making more in few years. I feel as if I belong on the road. As with any new job, I have to start at the bottom like everyone else that has gone before me. Lucky for me, I have my wife's support so there's nothing left to do other than getting out there and doing it. I'm counting the days... :biggrin_25520:

Is anyone else out there scheduled for the 11/2 class?

When I spoke to them yesterday they said they have one class coming up in Richfield. I hope that doesn't change. I live about 10 minutes from there.

Thanks spanky. I confirmed it again today and it is in Richfield. I hope it's a sign that maybe the economy is getting better. I'd like to stay busy but from I've read, it seems that Millis drivers have been staying busy for the most part compared to other companies.

Another thing I really like about Millis... I have a vacation scheduled (and paid for) in January and they are allowing me to keep my plans. This made the misses real happy and as you married guys know, if she ain't happy, nobody's happy.

I officially completed my training today at MTI and am sitting at home for a few days, today is my anniversary and my trainer said , by all means go home and be with your wife that family comes first!

Its also this way with hometime, if you want to be home a certain day, just let your dispatcher know at least 7 days in advance of that day or days and they will get you home.

My next part of the journey will be going out with my trainer for the next 5-8 weeks, Bill at the hamilton ohio school said that yes richfield is open for buisness. I dont know exactly how classes run in richfield but i can answer any questions about the basics. The 3 weeks go by very quick and are intense but fun, just go with the attitude that you will succeed , sit in the front , take notes and of course kick butt!

I am extremly happy with my decision so far and feel as i have gone with a great company or as Bill Smith would say " theres first class and theres no class, welcome to first class gentlemen!"

Its like everything in life , you get out of it what you put into it- I know the miles are there if you want them and if you hit dispatch they will run you until you cry mercy. Many of the drivers i talked to in streator, cartersville, eden and trenton all say the same. I have seen the yards and they are all buzzing with activity, same with the glass houses and the breweries. There is a LOT to learn so stay motivated and keep trying those backing manuevers over and over and over, they will get easier!

There school is 3 weeks then 3 days of orientation and then go with your trainer for 5 to 8 weeks. we run mainly east of the Missisippi river wit runs out to Texas. We fuel at the ta and pilot as well as our terminals. Our trucks are 06,08,09 and 2010 kenworth t2000s and 07 kenworth t600s. We also have some freightliner cascadias and columbias. The columbias are the regional trucks as well as some t660s they just bought. Our hiring area is pretty much the same as our running areas.
