Let me start by saying im new to cb radios terms and such may not be my strong suit. I drive a 2019 Kw t680 its a company truck and im limited in how much i can change. Ive done what i can and am alllowed to do. I have a used from my uncle "should" be good Cobra 29ltd chrome. When i installed it orginally the truck had factory antennas and a used asiatic mic. I have since replaced both of them as i would very rarely hear anyone at all. I bought two 4'144w francis fiberglass antennas and i now hear static and a fair bit more random chatter so it was definitely an improvement. At the same time i bought a brand new astatic mic because i thought it to could be bad. I can hear people key up and talk but. If i respond or if i key up and holler at someone no one responds cant hear me. Before i replaced the antennas the red antenna light would come on or it would fade in. I have knobs turned (possibly wrong) to what i was told by a family member. I have no clue what else to do or how to fix it. Could it be the radio is dead as it set unused for a few years. Ive been on the road since i installed it 2 weeks ago. Ive kept my eye open for a cb shop and havent seen or passed one. So I come here for advice. All that i know is what i posted may be able to awnser questions when you all have them. But im limited in knowledge so i may need more explanation in a question. If you all could awnser this id sure appreciate it. Also for those interested i had someone talk to me this morning i immediately keyed up and responded several times and they never came back. Thanks in advance id appreciate some help because i dont want to keep throwing money into it if its a simple fix.

If the red antenna warning light is coming on, it's probably due to high SWR...which is possible since you said you just replaced the antennas, but didn't say anything about adjusting them for low SWR...since this is all new to you, I would find a CB Shop and have them check everything out...first thing they will probably do is check SWR with a meter...

could also just be there's been no one around you when you were talking, or at least not in range of your radio...some of these guys you hear on the air, sometimes are hundreds of miles away even tho they may sound like they are right next door...(skip)

Mic Gain adjustment??? When you key the mic and speak into it, do you see the meter on the radio move a little to the right as you speak???

It sounds like your mic is working... You really need to have the antenna(s) checked when you can get to a shop... FYI: You might hear people in the distance that are running extra power, that's why they can't hear you...

Its a very real possibility that they have a big radio. But in this case the truck this morning was East bound and i was heading west. They called out company name. So i make an assumption they had to be talking to me. Im sitting at a truck stop now and ive keyed it up dont here no one and no responds. I will have to find a radio shop somewhere.

I'm going to take a guess and say you may not be talking close enough to the mic. The astatic noise canceling mics (and others of that type) have a rubber lip over the mic screen. You really need to put that rubber piece right on you upper lip when talking or you won't be loud enough for people to hear. You need to "eat the mic"

Try not to take the radio into a CB shop for now. Most of them just make a mess of your radio.

If it was working g before you replaced the antenna, then there's one or two possibilites wrong...one, the new antenna just needs to have SWR set correctly, or two, you have a bad or loose coax connector some where or pinched coax.
