I almost turned over one time in a similar situation with a flatbed loaded tall with staging. Very high center of gravity, when the tractor goes more than say 45 degrees to the trailer, the 5th wheel pivot works completely against you. You can see it easily in the video. I learned my lesson.

 

Your not alone I almost flip with a load of pig didn't know I was cleaning out a barn and they told me I was getting 180 loaded the top for 180 so about 85 pig uptop and find out I was about 30 short on bottom so extra top heavy and going around a z type turn where you have to go into the ditch a little and ended up ripping the thread off of 2 tire's on both sides

 

Always hated coming out of the woods with a big peeker.

 

It is so hard to swallow your pride and stop in that situation. We've all seen it, mostly on Youtube. The dude is probably a good driver, just not a good crasher.

All of his stress was probably from being stuck out in the road blocking traffic. You've just got to stop yourself at a point and realize that everyone else around you (meaning traffic) is going to have to deal with it for awhile while you think yourself out of this maze and/or get help doing so.

 

Is it me or does that clutch need adjusting????

 

Kinda looks like it's a highway geared truck and doesn't have the nuts to drag the trailer around. Probably winding it out and letting off the clutch hard to try and get it out.

 

I’ve often thought the same thing when I see these situations and unfortuantly I really think I’d screw it up worse too. When you are out there everyday trying to stay out of everyones way and you still feel like no matter what you do you still are and everyone is against you. I always have a feeling that everywhere I go because of the truck I am unwelcome. So I can totally see panic taking control when you got traffic stopped and everyone is watching and waiting for you to get that evil truck out of their way.
I’m not paronoid mind you and I am always confident in what I do but I can be very self conscious due to being raised with the old school yield the way manners and kids should not be seen or heard so maybe thats just me.

 

Turning toward the ditch is never a good idea. He should have turned left to pull the tandems out of the ditch. At least then he would still be upright

 

The weight of the trailer frame was laying on his drive tires, pretty hard to move with any gear ratio, like trying to move with the parking brake applied.

 

If you're supposed to be there and doing a job.... learn to develop the attitude of "I hate to be in their way, but let's do this as safely and quickly as possible".
In other words... THEY'LL GET OVER IT.
If you're unfortunately somewhere you're not supposed to be (it happens to us all!) it's even MORE important that you take your time and get out safely and correctly.
THEY'LL WAIT.

I've been trucking 32 years and I, myself, called for police assistance to get out of a bad situation just last year in Savannah GA.
I asked Firemen for the quickest truck safe route out of where I was delivering and they put me in a MESS !!
I stopped dead and called for help because it was deteriorating (trees low, bridges, residential).
Cars stacked up a bit, but it was the SAFE thing to do.
Explained to the local PD what got me there and they were fine with it. Got me right out.

But, I stopped before it got uncontrollable.
