    Why is it illegal?
I have a spread flat, would dumping the air in the bags on the rear (or forward) axle be enough to lift the tires of the ground or at least reduce the drag on them????

I looked and looked for the link but came up empty. The FMCSA website is an encyclopedia in itself. I just know having cab operated dump switches for your trailer is illegal. You can have dump switches and or valves located on the trailer tho.

This country has a bazzilian laws and we're at the point where most everything is illegal anymore, so why not a law against a feature to dump air off one axle of your trailer so as to save your tires from scrubbing durring tight turns.

I think they made this illegal so guys could no longer cheat on single axle scales, even though seemingly 90% are full statics today.

If you're ever caught, I would think simpley unplugging the pigtail would render it legal. Perhaps the right prick would make you cut the wires, who knows...

No, and yes. Dumping alone will not "lift" an axle (no), but certainly will reduce drag and scrub (yes).

    JasonTheRock Thanks this.

I didn't know a dump switches in the cab were illegal. When I ran end dump I had a switch for full air dump on the whole trailer and one for lifting the front axle. Another for popping the tailgate... I would have never got out of the truck if it weren't for getting my bol's signed.

Well then add me to the list of losers.:biggrin_25519:
I pulled the trigger on a 2000 Wabash 53' sliding spread yesterday. The closer was the fact the trailer as already been outfitted with the remote dump valves by the previous owner.

My tractor goes in Tuesday to have the switch installed.:biggrin_25525:
