Well I met with my friend and I have to say that the business is worth considering. Lawn care in central Florida can be lucrative especially when purchasing an existing route. But I see upside limits to the business unless I can hire dependable help. In my heart I don't think I want to get into having employees at the wage scale I would be paying who I might have to motivate to work and on whom I depended.

Boog let's stay in touch via the message boards. I have to tell my current employer that I am leaving, make an Oct 1 appt here in FL, get a CDL permit in TN (I think) then I should be clear to head out to Prime.

    Good luck on your "hoops".

FYI, we get nothing from the Government for training, a local Montanan can go through the job service and get payment $ You might want to go to your local job service-it is worth investigating-- I wish we did, we wouldn't charge a thing if that were the case. When we train our own folks we get better retension and our best
advertising (word orf mouth) and make $ in the long -run.

The figures on the Web are incorrect, I will have CDR change that on the web site.
    Thanks for the heads-up.

This post should be renamed to Prime something. Anyways. Just a heads up, called a recruiter at Prime and because I had been outta work (not that I hadn't been trying to get work) for more than 4 months, she wouldn't give me the time of day. Looks like I'm back to the drawing board.

It had previously been stated on here by someone that W/S was working with a financing company that they would refer a prospective CDL student to under their new policy of offering no in-house financing.

I can confirm that my first reply that one of us was misinformed is accurate. I spoke with Roxy at W/S today, and she confirmed in no uncertain terms that W/S is definitely NOT working with any finance company, nor are they referring prospects anywhere. You are on your own to come up with the tuition. They only thing they will do, as stated a couple posts above this, is direct you to your home state's workforce office for a government grant/assistance.

Sorry to hear it Lynch. I'm still planning to go, but life keeps happening to me here. Got a friend with another new business idea that looks attractive - refinishing bronze plaques and headstones of all things. Hate to say it, but it looks interesting. Also after much to-ing and fro-ing wife and I have decided to sell our house. I have emailed Prime recr asking if it will be possible for me to come off the road when the house sells. It would be difficult to ask my wife to pack the house and move by herself while she is working full time and going to school.

It's never a straight line is it..?

Just go get a job a McDonalds or some other minimum wage job you know you're not going to keep long. Once you're employed, I'd call them back (chances are you'll get a different recruiter), tell them you have a job, and you were unemployed before that (now). They will probably have you get three non-family memebers to sign a notarized letter stating they can confirm you were unemployed and searching for work. I bet you'd be good to go then if you really want to go with them. Incidentally, I hear BEING CURRENTLY unemployed is the kiss of death for most companies. Unemployment in the past, even the recent past they don't look so disfavorably on. Just what I've heard.

Well it's been a few days since I posted and thought I should bring you all up to date. I learned that I will not be allowed to return home during training if I need to help pack up and move furniture when our house sells. That puts an end to going anywhere until selling the house is cleared up. We weren't settled on selling the house so that was a bit of a change in circumstances - but a change that puts everything else on hold.

I got approval to hire from 3 different companies so if they are still hiring a couple/few months from now, I will just have to reapply and try once again. In the meantime I remain at my current job - which I am thankful to have.

Good luck to you guys. Hope to see you sometime in the future. I have really enjoyed reading the posts and learning from these boards.

    Best regards,

    Leaphorn

Good luck to you as well. My house has been on the market for nearly 3 months without an offer yet. We've had a ton of people look at the house, but the market is still in the dumper here. We just dropped our price $10K to stimulate some offers. I hope you have better luck where you are. I had the same obstacle of moving stuff midway through training. We (The War Dept. and I) decide to just go ahead with our move and get all of our stuff out of here. I'm nearly done, I just have a few big items like fridge, sofa, dining room table, and king-size bed and I will be all moved out by this weekend. That is why I ultimately held off starting somewhere.

So, I can feel your pain. Hopefully the market nationwide will be in a much better state shortly. Good luck and see ya down the road.
