I have a 98 pete with a N14
I have had 2 compressors lock up on me.
1st lock up was after I had a guy come to shop and charge the system. Driver said he heard a noise and got under the hood and the clutch was spitting sparks and he cut the belt. The compressor had locked up we took it apart and a piston broke.
2nd compressor. So we changed the compressor pulled a vacuum and found the rear bunk unit leaking ( I changed carpet when I bought truck and back was full of oil from the unit. We didnt put any Freon in at the time because I didnt have the caps to block off rear unit. I did put in Pag oil in the compressor when it was installed. Today we pulled vacuum and it held. I went to start the truck and nothing happen when I looked the belt was off the compressor and it was locked up again.
We pulled the dryer off this time and changing that cut old one open and nothing that looks bad.
Anyone have any Ideas>

Want your ac to work perfect? Replace / Clean everything. New compressor, condenser, reciever/dryer, expansion valves. Either take them out and super thoroughly clean your evaporators or replace them. Thuroughly clean every line. Any junk in the system will mess up a york style compressor. But, if set up properly in a clean system, a york compressor can last 20 years.

If all you did was slap a new compressor on after replacing the original there's probably shrapnel through out the system now.

Black Death, look into the lines, especially the one from compressor, to the condenser. Flush everything good, and replace condenser, you’ll never get it clean.

You can go to A/C repair shop to buy a gal. of flush a/c cleaner to clean out lines, the con. in ft. of rad. will have to be replaced, the newer ones have so small of tubes that they can't be cleaned out so flacks of your 1st comp. are piled up inside of con. they are much cheaper now, just follow the hi pressure line and clean them out by putting a cup of cleaner in hose and tape up other side and let cleaner run back and forth a few times till it comes out clean, taking the evap. out from dash is a pain but pour what comes out into a clean pail just to see how bad it is ,the dryer is like the oil filter in the A/C system and should be replaced every time freon is out of system?
