After re-reading your post, I don't think the mic is your problem. Since the red transmit light is coming on when you key the mic, that tells us that the push to talk switch (and circuit) is working.
Now you can get this same symptom with the CB/PA switch in the PA mode. The only difference is the green receive light turns off instead of red.
So at this point it appears to me that the problem is in the radio. Of course the srf/swr meter could be bad, or the needle is stuck. The easiest way to see if the radio is putting out any watts, is to use an external swr/power meter. -
Man, that's crazy. It's a brand new CB. I guess this happens from time to time though

Well unfortunately these radios like everything else is made in China today. There is one more thing you can check though. If you have a DC volt meter, you need to check the power voltage going into the radio. It should be a little over 12 volts DC or a little over 14 volts with the motor running. I have seen low DC voltage cause problems with radios, especially in the transmit mode.Life on Wheels Thanks this.
