I worked at a mega for over 5 years. I've been off a few months. I went out on a three week leave of absence. They called me the third week and told me the leave of absence policy was two weeks maximum and I would have to reapply when previously the policy had been maximum one month and they never told anybody the policy changed at the first of the year. So, I just blew them off and figured it would be a good time to change companies.
So, now that I've started looking at companies, a lot of the applications ask for supervisor and their phone number. My dispatcher retired a week before I left, and I had four different ones anyways. I don't think it would be possible for an outsider to even get a hold of a dispatcher/supervisor. What are you supposed to do when they ask for your supervisor's name and number when you worked at a mega?

This is one of those companies that hires 10,000+ drivers per year to keep the seats filled so I don't even think they have an HR department for the drivers at least. They would have to employ 10 people just to take care of employment verifications. As far as using a terminal manager, I never spoke to him, but I suppose I could use that if I had to.

I worked at a mega for 1.5 years. I never learned any of the office peoples names beyond my dispatcher and the annoying safety guy who would call to coach me on the number of times the forward sensor recorded me too close to someone. I never learned the terminal manager names or ever talked to him. I was just a number to them so why should I care what their names were.
Also, in many companies of this industry, the dispatchers and other office personnel are paid very low and have a very high turnover rate.
In my most recent job hunt, I filled out names of people who I knew had since quit. It doesn’t matter.
Bottom line, it’s your psp score, dac report, and accident/ticket record is all that matters.
The references question is almost only there because it seems like every other type of job has that box to fill in. It really doesn’t matter much in this industry.JC1971 Thanks this. -
CEO’s name and there 800 number
I used to do that since I worked for Swift a couple times. I put down Jerry Moyes and there mane number 800-800-2200 ... never heard a thing about it. -
Put down your old dispatcher. If they call and find out he is no longer there they won't be surprised. It is a trucking company. They will find someone to talk to.
