I ran my Truck 2 summers without it, just a few yrs back. Had to plan the day. Especially way down south. Be moving or parked, and inside somewhere, between 1:00 and 5:00 pm. Sleep at night, after getting north as far as possible. Either way, around 9:00 am, once it hits 72 degrees, Id wake up. I vowed to never put another York compressor on again. Took a long time to get my current Sandens set up, along with all new everything. It was rough, but not impossible.
How long would you go without AC

You old timers are tough sons of #####es. I can drive without AC with my windows rolled down. But my issue is sleeping with no AC. They still expect me to finish my work so if I dont sleep it becomes a safety issue.austinmike, Bean Jr. and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I don’t blame you. I had changed at least 10 York compressors between 2 Trucks over 17 yrs. A/C is a must have. I worked the city one summer in a 78 GMC Day Cab, 14-17 hr days. No PS, No A/C, No Radio, No Nothing. Winter I froze. Those were not good old days. It sucked, but the money was great.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

The trucks had ac, but my dad never ran it either. 5'2" 130 lbs and Armstrong steering. He had a friend who was a former NFL lineman and he was having none of that! Power steering all the way.201 Thanks this.

Exactly. Well, I think it was after school started. My dad picked me up from kindergarten to go get the boat trailer.

If it's my truck, getting the ac is a low priority. If it's somebody else's, it's getting fixed, now!austinmike and Brettj3876 Thank this.

The '72 Pete in my avatar had manual steering. ( center point, was a bit easier)To be honest, I liked the feel of it, although, a steer tire blowout would yank the wheel out of your hands, I heard. I hauled rail cans out of Chicago with it,,,I know,,and can only remember a few times I got in trouble with it. Tight docks mostly, but other than that I liked manual steering. My 1st trucking job, they had a R model Mack as a spare with manual steering. It was a lot harder to steer than my Pete. The boss said, "drive that truck for a week, you could arm wrestle anyone".Brettj3876 and Bean Jr. Thank this.

Today marks one more day for me without it. Lol.
Maybe I will get it installed tomorrow or the next day.buddyd157 Thanks this. -
I wouldn't at all.
Hell I barely go outside without a neck fan nowadays.
Looks kinda goofy but hey whatever. You are cool while everyone else is sweating at the dirt track
It's like $5 direct from China or 20 30 bucks marked up from a USA dealer. Same junk.
Lasts bout 4 hours before you charge it up again.
Im using it right now as to not put myself into poverty by running the air lol.
Does a real nice job.
