I thought I had seen some high lumper fees before, but this morning I set a new record for loads I've hauled. DPI Special Foods in Portland Oregon. A reefer load of ice cream, lumper fees $1,002.00. My jaw dropped when he told me the amount. This is a Convoy load, and they're taking forever getting me a check code, probably because they feel ripped off.

    What's everybody's personal high amount?

Warehouses, especially food warehouses, jack up lumper fees in order to help cover shipping costs and thus increase profits.

Nothing that high on a one and one but a lot of the LTL loads are running way over 1K.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

With this covid mess they’re in a position to charge what they want. My last stop before I parked the truck charged $180 for 5 pallets. I would have charged $50,but wasn’t allowed on the dock.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

1000 dollars? Good God man.....I've never seen a lumper fee larger than 400 dollars. If the lumper is through Capstone, they eat people alive.

    Coffey Thanks this.

Some of our guys on the LTL runs were doing their own and making 4-500 a week. Now it's all lumpers and takes twice as long. Only a couple of receivers will still let us unload.

    Coffey and 062 Thank this.

I’ve gotten to the point where I hate for anyone to even go into my trailer. Going to load up tomorrow and see if my nerves can take it.

In the case of this load, Nestle was the shipper and scheduled the load. If I were them, I would refuse future loads until they bring their lumper fees back in line. That's just plain old gouging.

Any idea how many pallets it broke down to?
I was at USF fairburn ga. A lumper was training a new guy and they opened the door next to me, and the “trainer “ said this one will have 5-6 restacks. I looked in the trailer and everything looked perfect. They were just going to jack up the fees.

No idea how it broke down, but they loaded 20 pallets on my trailer. The BOL indicated it was all the same product, Haagen Dazs ice cream. Pallet break downs is a joke anyway. In fact, the entire lumper system is a freaking rip off. It should have nothing to do with drivers what so ever.
