Some systems use a combination of the overhead system and the harness. The overhead reel locks fairly quickly. The harness has straps coiled inside. They uncoil as they get loaded from the fall force.
They say that this style is supposed to be “gentle” on the user.
One thing I have learned, it was years ago and stayed with me. When you fall through the air, ain’t nothing to grab onto.D.Tibbitt and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Friendly word of advice: learn how to properly wear one of those harnesses. You really don't want your manhood "de-gloved" if you fall.
At a minimum, buy a shock absorbing lanyard. It'll cut down the arresting forces significantly if you were to fall. Self-retracting are the best but are a bit spendy.whoopNride, Long FLD, JonJon78 and 1 other person Thank this. -

A little better picture of a tarping station.

I should have had some kind of restraint on when this happened. Last time I try to jump a barbed wire fence!!

I stripped and reroofed 12 square on an 8:12 pitch at 30ft off the ground. by myself. on weekends. I had scaffolding and bought the roof harness in the bucket from home depot. It did save me 1 time. Wish I had that on video lol.
Safety is important. Better to just believe that than prove it
The home depot one is made for big men. I'm about 150 at 5'8. So if you have a chance to find out how its going to fit I'd do it.
As an aside my neighbors daughter is a stunt woman. She says theirs have no buckles no metal parts. The thigh buckles will bruise you if you're squatting on a steep roof all day. Lucky we're mostly upright while tarping.Rideandrepair and not4hire Thank this.
