Try also local moving companies.A lot of labor involved, because its usually 100% live loading&unloading.Good luck.:smt020

Schoolbus is another alternative, many companies will give you training in order to get the s and p endorsements. It doesn't pay the greatest, but it is a paycheck.........

I know a guy who went to work for Coke right out of school. Maybe you could land a job delivering pop. That's the route I'd take if I were you.

You can also check ABF and other LTL companies. Sometimes those guys will hire fresh grads to work on the docks. After a year or so, they will offer those workers driving jobs.

Bus driving jobs are an option, too, especially if you're near a big city. I see immigrants driving buses in Salt Lake, which tells me they can't find enough white boys and girls to drive 'em.

I also have to say that it sounds like to me you didn't do your homework. Didn't you know what trucking was like before going to your driving school?

    Good luck.

Actually, bus driving is a great alternative to truck driving. I drive part-time for a local transit outfit. My full-time co workers work typically 40hrs a week and average 30k a year, county equivelent benefits, overtime, and a union job. Compared to the 35k-40k a year that OTR drivers average and almost double the hours bus drivers drive, bus driving is a good alternative. As far as "ethnic" drivers go, I do see them alot in the cities, but where I work we're all white and there's only 14 bus drivers where I'm at. Last I checked, Greyhound is also union and is supposed to be up in the $24 an hour (which is about $8 an hour more than I make) realm right now.

I leave for US Xpress on Tues. Just got my CDL last Mon. Less than 2 weeks out of school...Will be OTR to start out...If I like them I will stay with them...If not after maybe 6 months to 1 year I will go some where else. Looking forward to it. I have read I will have to lift 78 lb crates up and down 3 shelves. Hope I can do that. On my last job I lifted 50 lbs all the time. So maybe it will be doable for me.
