Broker/Carrier

I don’t know personally, but I do believe many Carriers will take a cut of the load through their Brokerage, before giving you,( themselves) the load.

 

How about,


Carrier books load with broker A then has in-house brokerage broker the load back to Carrier then carrier books load with an owner op.

seen it happen.

 

That’s what I mean, the load goes through the in house brokerage, flipped to O/O at a percentage of the new rate.

 

I thought you mean in house broker brokers load to owner op bypassing the Carrier the owner op runs under.

either way, there’s money to be made on the backs of truckers.

 

I guess that’s what I mean. I knew a Guy that ran everything through the Brokerage first. All Brokered freight. A friend of mine Leased onto him. We suspected this, since I could book the same loads, at a higher rate, than what he made 85% of. I don’t know how he operated, but I’d imagine, they ran all the loads through the Brokerage first. Then sold them to themselves. After all that’s essentially what Landstar does, whether it goes on their Truck, or another’s.

 

one would call that double brokering, but nope it’s all legal.

 

I still dont understand why it matters what a broker gets out of a load.

 

it doesn’t and never should, but the laws are so relaxed that you can have 3-4 brokers in between before you even get to it.

double brokering is illegal, but not enforced.

having a load go through:

broker - carrier - in house broker - carrier - owner op

makes a little hard to swallow when you rely on the carrier to be upfront with you. It’s just another way for them to make more money off the owner up while pretending things are on the up and up.

 

Hmm. I also wonder why drivers think full transparency is the answer to more money. What if shippers arent paying as much for spot market drivers? Also, for the much smaller shippers, what if they arent paying all that much to have a load moved? I got to thinking about a place in Mississippi I delivered a flatbed load to years ago. There was a guy asking me if I needed a load. Now I've always been a company driver, plus I was already preplanned on a load. I told him to call the company that I was working for at that time. He comes back to me, and tells me that my company wanted too much to move it. He would have been willing to work directly with a driver, but also, for a favorable price.
