i like walmart. each time i stop at one, i usually go and spend $150-200 on supplies and food. once a security guard tried telling me i couldn't park at one. i told him what i was about to spend, and asked if he'd like to be the factor as to why walmart would have lost some business that day. he called the store management and they said i could stay as long as i didn't make a mess of the area i was parked in.

    Hi everybody!

So most truckers seem to agree that Mom and Pop truck stops are the best...so what are some of your favorites?

Do you ever go out of your way to stop at a certain place?

    Which ones?

I'm trying to find the BEST truck stops in America - any suggestions?

    Thanks!

My three favorite mom and pop truck stop restaurants are Johnson's Corner, Colorado; Jolly, Texas and Douglas, Wyoming.

For a fast cup of iced tea I used to drive through Wendy's. You couldn't stop at the box where you order but you can drive up to the window and order there. Just shut the truck off because they can not hear inside! Wendy's is the only one that does not have an overhang so you'll clear everything but of course you have to check all the exits so you can get out.

I'll take the small O/O truck stops for fuel and rest. But be sure to write them down because I got the best fish and chips I've ever had then spent two years trying to find it again.

Johnson's Corner in Loveland,CO is a good stop. Nice shower, decent fuel prices, and good food. I park on street behind sometimes when it is full of reefers and it is cool enough to open windows. Sleep like dead people.

...a couple of my favorite Truck Stops....

The Pilot just north of Lexington KY on I-75...one of the few Pilot's I've seen with w real sit-down restaurant...

The TA in Harbor Creek PA on the I-90...always good food, and the waitresses are nice...

There is or was a nice Mom & Pop place off I-75 north of Atlanta...I don't recall the mane, but they had REAL homestyle cookin'...

There's one in Kittery Maine that had awesome clam chowder....

There was a place called Plaza30 on US-30 near Wanatah IN that had a nice homey feel....the lot was kinda small, but the food was good, and not expensive....A nice place to stop when I had to be in Chicago the next morning, though I'd typically stop there after delivering....The Gary Schneider OC was a ton closer...

The Indy stop in Appleton WI....Nice tasty cheap food, and always a place to park even if you got there late......

Sorry some of these are a bit vague...I haven't been OTR since 2003, but I'm going back to OTR driving in a few weeks....just waiting on new glasses so I can pass the DOT physical....:biggrin_255:
