If you can afford it trade it for a new one. When your warranty expires all costs come out of your pocket. The emissions garbage on these trucks will leave you with an empty bank account.

The after-treatment system is not so difficult. If you educate yourself a little and find a qualified mechanic who can properly fix it and maintain it in good condition - your truck can make you money at least 300-400 thousand miles more.

Trading the truck off is trading the devil you know for the devil you don't. What is going to empty your bank account is not knowing how to work on your truck or know how all the systems work and relying on a dealer and that warranty to help you. They'll figure out any way they can to deny that warranty coverage and leave you paying out of pocket for the repair cost. Dealerships are NOT your friend when it comes to the single truck owner/operator. Do you trust them enough to dianose a faulty sensor that can lead to a derate that might only be a few hundred dollars to repair vs them telling you your doc and/or dpf filter are plugged and need to be replaced at the cost of thousands of dollars?

Does your truck have an apu? How often do you idle your truck? Long periods of idling are detrimental to the emissions systems.

 

Hi . I have two 2015 Cascadias in running condition .
Spent 25k cad on one around 1M miles (big expenses were ONE BOX assembly and DEF pump .
And now the another cascadia is giving same codes (comes and goes like yours )
4364 fmi 18 .
I’d say if you want to live headache free ,learn stick shift , buy a glider or any o/o maintained pre emissions and keep truckin

 

I've always been a buy pay off and run for 3-5 years. Then use as part of a down payment to buy new or newer. But today's trucks it's easy to spend a years wort of payment in just 2 or 3 emissions repair. So I say if you can afford, once warranty or shortly thereafter. Trade in for a new truck. Keep your monthly payment as low as possible. So if you can put down 10-20k in addition to your trade. *if you save .10-.20 per mile in your maintance account on your new truck. You will more than have that amount come trade time.
