hi ,
Looking for info , as I will be getting my class a license , in the next month again , after taking about 17 years off. Building up another business and having my wife run it .
I use to run dump truck transfers , as a O/O in so cal , for about 15 years 1987--2002 .
My two questions.
1. If I'm applying for a new job as a driver , will any of those 15 years count as experience?
2. If I'm looking to become an O/O again , will any of those years , help with insurance costs ?
I like driving and use to enjoy the rock and sand business . Have thought about it , all those years , of not driving . Something about big rigs. Just never leaves your blood.
Should of never given up my CDL . In the first place .
Really enjoy the sight and the input .
Thanks for all the hard work , you drivers and O/O , have done for all those years.
Just doing a lot of research , trying to figure out which route I'm going to .
Thanks
Getting back in the game

1. No it won't. You will start at square one.
2. See number 1.brgrcru Thanks this. -
Hold off on the 0/0 for awhile. 0/0's on here can give details on why.
Insurance will be 10's of thousands of dollars.
What type trucking do you want in the meantime?
How are you getting your cdl back?
If in school, how many hours is the school?
Will you have endorsements and TWIC? You will need those for the better jobs. -
I have my CLP with all endorsments ,accept hazard .as of now . driving 3 days a week at a school for 2 hrs a day
For the past week . 5 weeks to go , then take the pre trip , tech and diving test . The instructor said I'm ready now , driving the rig came back fast.
since I paid for 6 weeks , I'm going to use it .
Might not jump in right away , but wait until see what happens in the next year ?
Don't think getting into anything , right now , is a good idea. But at least it will be done , when America settles back into some type of normalcy. -
Seems like a good plan you have.
Trucking has changed a lot since you last drove.
If you need suggestions on companies to apply with, plenty of drivers on here can help.

Robertson's can keep you local and you'll qualify for that company.

Use it or lose it OP. And that’s not said to sound offensive it’s just the way it is. My uncle had 3.2 million miles When he took an absence of eight years and even he had to start over when he went back into driving.
The trucking industry is all about “what have you done for me lately”. In basically every aspect. -
Bummer was hoping I can jump into a 150 k a year hobby job ! Lol
I get it ? Was just wondering ?
Why I thought about the 0/0 route again .might be back In a transfer . For a local small company , or more like Robertson ?
Soon to be 55 ,not going to stress about it, that much . As I have income. With our other business . -
If you have other income is only hobby jump . Life is short however if being positive cash flow important take it slow . Good luck

I would of thought maybe pre driving experience would of helped .
