    169,

No false info here, just the plain truth. There's no way I would trust headphones or ear buds as long as some people clip the limiters out of their radios.

I agree, especially if they are driving a truck like this old 2006 Pete that I'm driving. It's pretty loud inside that cab from the motor, road, and wind noise.

Yep the last thing a driver wants to do is block off road sounds with head phones.

You do realize that the jack coming out of the radio for a speaker is just one channel, don't you? Must be lost on you that it is possible to wear headphones over just one ear? Lol, rookies. And Einstein? Running a CB at a high volume also covers up road noises, in both ears. With a headphone, just one ear is used for the speaker. Yikes...

I use an earbud on a long long wire, initially because the wife didn't want to hear the CB when she's riding with me, and then because I actually can hear the radio better.

With the earbud, I quickly learned how to protect from the excess noise coming out of the radio. Specifically, I've learned how to balance the little thing on a part of my external ear structure so I can hear if any RF traffic comes on, but far enough out so that unexpectedly loud transmissions don't cause discomfort or damage. If I hear anything that sounds interesting and I want to listen, then I insert it farther in the ear to effectively regulate the volume. If the RF traffic is not interesting, I can pull it out to its "monitoring" position on the external ear, or just remove it completely and drape it over / on my right shoulder until I want to listen again.

    I'm a Boy Scout.

The word was headphoneS (plural), not headphone, although I noticed you conveniently left off the 'S' at the end of your spew

I've done the same thing over the years, not very convienent but it does work. My whole point was if a loud radio comes on the air, you can't act quick enough to turn the volume down. You only have your hearing once, why risk losing it? Now if they made headphones with AGC circuit built in, then it probably would solve the OP's problem.

As I noted, I don't dare ride around with an earbud in the ear canal. Instead, it is situated outside just far enough to hear if anything comes on the channel yet not so close to the eardrum as to risk damage from the shorted limiters or monster wattages out there. Yep, an earbud is not nearly as convenient as having a speaker a couple of feet away and not hanging from your ear, but it's got some good points too if a driver wants to accommodate it to solve a hearing / understanding problem in a noisy cab.
