Great responses so far. For me it’s more of a psychological thing. I’m out here living on this truck 35 to 45 days at a time and I don’t like sitting what is now amounting to anywhere from a day and a half to 3 1/2 days per week one way or another. I can’t seem to get much over 2000 miles in a week because of this kind of crap. A lot of weeks I’ll have 1500 miles by Wednesday night and still end up with around 2100 miles by the time the weeks over because the dispatch is freaking games they play. I understand things are slow but I’m out here to make money. I can only empathize so much with a trucking company that plays games with their drivers. So my plan is I’m going to deliver this #### load two days early. Probably a little over two days early. And then I’m gonna put in for detention pay and if I don’t get it I’m for sure going to quit and I might look into a breach of contract suit because they’ve been doing this crap since day one.

Just find one of those websites where people are looking for drivers to move stuff for them and do some freelancing since you have a truck and so many extra days.

It is always good to plan your departure.
Make sure you have some cash set aside for the transition.
Use any sick or vacation due.
Take care of any medical, dental or vision.
Tell them you need home time and get the truck back to the yard.
Leave on a positive note even if you want to punch your dispatcher.

Gliding ProStar and Coffey Thank this.

If you dont mind going a little north of Daytona there is a dollar general in Ormond-by-the-sea that has a little lot right beside it you can park a truck in. you'll be right across the road from the beach.

I don’t even know what I have in sick leave or vacation pay. I’ve never used any of either. I didn’t think most trucking companies paid sick leave for over the road company drivers?

Get there as quick as you can, be nice and polite but also play dumb like you don’t know how early you are. Cash usually helps.

I came out of the left coast one time and showed up at Walmart in MI a day early. I just explained to the guard that I knew I was not suppose to be there till the next day, but any chances of getting unloaded?

He made a phone call and said put in door so and so.

it is never a good idea to quit on a negative. Always try and wait until something you want more comes along.

I have 2 children that lost their jobs during this manufactured mess. Sometimes it pays to look around and be grateful for what you do have.

Never show your hand either, or they will play you like a fiddle.
