Well... I'm still here so it's going good. Started with around 22, now down to 11. This class is for the most part a motivated group. Helping each other study others weak areas etc... We are now on the range and overall I would say it's not difficult, others would say it is. I guess those 6 years I spent during my naval career (not many sonar technicians had that on their resume) pulling a flatbed around, HAZMAT and Explosives qualified as well, has finally paid off.

I tried to give a pretty decent rundown over in the "Going to CRS" thread so as not to tie up this one with all that stuff.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

My own real motivation for getting thru this school is for the chance to taste some of them famous cookies that Jess has been passing around.

Hey guys haven't been on for a while been to busy truckin it up so I'm here to give the update.
Just finished my first week with 6pak and he is probably the best trainer I could have picked.
Well next to the famous JJ. He's teaching me a lot of things that the school doesn't even get
close to touching on. Mama mia and lextec if u guys get 6pak u will be pleased. One thing I do have to say to all the newbies is that when ur with ur trainer listen to every word. He's going to repeat himself about a lot of stuff like did u do u mac 45 or make sure u check ur corners while ur turning. Before u know it u will be saying all that stuff in ur head. Well that's my update 1 week down 3 more to go!

Hang in there Mia, y'all will be in SLC in no time at all. I'm totally jealous of all the student drivers right now. I cant wait to get out on the road in the big rigs. Keep us posted like Bootlegger and JJoystealth are. Find yourself a cheap thrift store and use the brown trash bags for inpromtu rain coat... I used to wear one while delivery my paper route.:biggrin_2552:

Did 6pak ever find himself a female chihuahua to ride shotgun?

I was over to the SPCA here in Santa Maria where the have boatloads of them waiting to be adopted. Good luck with your trainer and keeps us posted on your new adventures. Does 6pak have any recommendations for trainers? I'm heading off to Fontana on Oct 5, I would like to get a trainer that can help learn to drive in wintery weather.

For the guy asking about the DWI from 1985. I would report it. Same is if I EVER had my licence suspended. If it has been that long and you have been clean since then, I don't see a problem. I knew several central drivers while I was there that had those issues in the past.
My licence had been suspended in 1991 for failure to pay a ticket in time. I let them know, and had no problem.

There was a guy asking about going lease, that is in a new Pro Star now.
You are in a Corn Binder son, what would you want one of those Paccar's for???
You will have fewer breakdowns where you are now, don't move. International is one of the highest quality products in this country.
On going lease solo, I think that is just a bad idea anyway. Unless you KNOW you are going to be getting 11k miles a month, and there is no way to know that.
Also Jan-April is a slow time for freight. Always has been. So with the current economy already slow, I would expect you to be getting more miles now to the end of December, than you will then. Take some miles off for Christmas and Thanksgiving. If you are not home you may be sitting allot those weekends. Your saving grace will be if you have a good dispatcher that puts you on some shuttling of drop and hooks.

I would say, stay where you are. Stay company till after winter is over. At least April.
If your miles are consistantly over 3000 miles a week, or at least 11k a month, then I would consider going lease. Lease what you have now. If that truck is proforming well, with no more than a day or two down a month for service, keep it. Why would you want to give up a good proforming truck for an unknown truck? Pete and Kenworth are product names that have been banking on there names in recent years. They are not any higher quality than International. Even at best.
And Volvo has a long way to go to catch up to any of them. Espically with there 2008 engines. Mack and Volvo are having a hell of a time with regeneration issues and carbon fouling.

    Poobah Thanks this.
