Would you not agree that these people that use them for recreation should be better trained and should have to have a qualified license to drive them though? I mean if a person transporting one from the factory has to have a cdl to drive it to the dealer why should some Joe Blow be able to come buy it and drive it all over the country and not have be qualified in the least to drive it.

Are you suggesting that the SUV's the neo-yuppies drive don't also present a significant safety risk? When was the last time you heard of a bicycle rear ending a bus/car killing 7 people?
Your kidding right?
I got a better idea! Let's make the speed limit lower of 'Professional' truck DRIVERS and let amatuer 4-wheelers drive 10-15 miles faster!
The Idioticy seems to know no bounds.Last edited: Sep 19, 2009

So whether or not you use a vehicle of that specific size to make money is the -only- contributing factor to whether or not the rules apply to them?
..And these rules aren't based on revenue? Commerce or not, an RV can kill people...
Which takes me back to my original point, companies, as an entity, are not entitled to constitutional rights... People are.. So as outlined in another post, the governments way of violating our rights, as individuals, is through the companies themselves.
It's all manipulation.
Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
I guess I see this different than the DOT.
What about the 4 wheeler that falls asleep and goes across and strikes or causes the truck driver to avoid and killing the truck driver, who is a father of five.
It is okay, I guess, it is only one person and they were a truck driver.photolurp2 Thanks this. -
As long as the 4 wheeler was not engaged in commerce, or trying to make money, then they dont care! The DOT CANT MAKE ANY MONEY PERSECUTING 4 WHEELERS! So who cares how many people they maim and kill!Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

They do not care whether the 4 wheeler is engaged in commerce.
Look at all the panther vans and others. Besides, I know salesmen that drive like maniacs and run people off the road to get to the next call. They are engaged in commerce, but not big enough for the code. They clearly are only interested in trucks and finding whatever they can with them.
4 wheelers and others are not even watched by the regular state bears unless they are 15 to 20 over then they get a speeding ticket. Not a reckless ticket. -
The people who legislate laws are all 4-wheelers, with primarly their own interests in mind.
If truck drivers passed laws, the world might have a little more common sense.
Follow the money.....and self interests.
"No trucks in left lane", perfect example. -
I agree with both sides on this issue with one exception: if you are a slow driver, or a trucker in general, you should be in the FAR RIGHT lane except to pass. Nothing irks me more than 5 lanes of traffic going the same speed for 30 miles. I think that slow drivers in the left lane that refuse to move over should have a magazine emptied into them. Not really, but it does piss me off. I cannot count how many times in my POV I have had to accelerate to nearly 100 mph, and pass traffic on the right to get past some idiot. Or as fast as my truck will go.

Going to post laws, please post the law that supports passing at 100 mph in a personal car.
