I work for a delivery company, we drive automatic transmission trucks with 47 foot trailers. I'm looking to go over the road. I already went to a CDL school.

Unfortunately, it's been very difficult for me to go over the road again, simply because I am very picky about the hometime I get.

I like Roehl's 7 on 7 off program, unfortunately they won't hire me because its been almost 2 years since I went to CDL school. I was also looking at Knight Trans with the 4 on 4 off and 7 on 7 off program they have, but they require 6 months OTR experience. Finally Schneider has the 14 on 7 program.

I feel like I shot myself in the foot by working for a delivery company instead of just going over the road.

Any suggestions on what to do? A refresher course is honestly out of the question, because I really don't make enough money at my current job.

Sounds like you're SOL unless you luck up on a company needing a casual driver that's not so strict on the "recent experience" thing. Sometimes you have to sacrifice to get what you want. Yeah a referesher would suck and I wouldnt want to do it myself either - on the other hand it's a short means to an end.

Try the smaller outfits. Alot of times they have more leeway with their insurance co's and don't require the "recent" part of the OTR experience.

With limited experience, ya can't be real picky with hometime. FWIW.....

You don't wanna hear it, but, you MAY be better off with the job you already have!!!! There's lotsa OTR drivers about to starve to death right now. Just an idea...

Does anyone have information on Roehl flatbed division? (average miles; quality of company, etc) What is considered as no recent experience? I have been off road for 1 year and currently drive a straight delivery truck.

The school I went to offered free refresher courses for up to a year after
    you graduate.

You might want to check with the school you went to as they may do this
    also.

    mailman Thanks this.
