I'm hoping to do LTL Linehaul when I get out of CDL school, but in my area there are rarely linehaul openings but almost always P&D openings. I'm wondering what I could realistically expect as a P&D Driver in a city of around 100k population, with Oak Harbor Freight, Central Transport, Reddaway, or Old Dominion Freight? My understanding is these companies start P&D Drivers in the low $20s/hr. But is it only 40 hours per week normally, or is it possible to get 55+ hours per week?

p@d is pick up and del. del 100,000 stops before lunch and pick up 200,000 stops after lunch. then everything going to point a is sorted and shipped line haul to that point.

line haul ( i recall A.Duie Pyle), would NOT hire anyone for line haul, UNLESS you had night time driving. i know, as i applied there many years ago. so for instance a P&D driver may never get onto line haul, but an OTR driver would.
now, with things the way there are now a days, all of this from ALL companies, may have changed.truckdriver31 Thanks this. -
Most peddle hands start at 9:00 AM with 15 or so deliveries, then about 5 or so pickups ideally after deliveries are done.
If you stay in town you might get 8-9 hours a day. If you have a long run you might get 11-12.snowlauncher, Cardfan89, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -

Sure, I’ve had a linehaul run get cut once in a while, but once I switched over to days and took the long peddles the lazy do-nothings didn’t want, that never happened again.Cardfan89, Texas_hwy_287, McUzi and 1 other person Thank this. -

Some places have a waiting list to get on line haul so p&d is a foot in the door. Everyone wants linehaul because of the money. Working nights isn’t for everyone tho.
snowlauncher and jmz Thank this.
