Exactly. It’s why I pay a $1300 minimum. Happy wife, happy driver.
It was just an example of a contractor has legal say over when he works. I was more proving a point. An employee can say that of course, at risk of being cut loose. Someone on a 1099 might feel they have more power in the situation because if the owner argues then they can just let the IRS know.
O/O’s what are you paying your driver

$1300 minimum happy wife indeed. When I worked for grabel as a company driver. They used to send her and the kids a birthday card and small $50 gift certificate. I must have quit that company 5 times. Each time she would call Bob the operations manager. Tell him if he didnt have to have me sooner. I'd be back in 3 days. 2 nights later there was no cooked dinner or "privileges" She would say when you get home from work tomorrow!Coffey, Dino soar, kemosabi49 and 3 others Thank this. -

The odds are stacked to start with. 1099, out 2-3 weeks at a time. That leaves the bottom rung mega ABC Mr 11"8 bridge guy (that prob just got fired). I like being able to sleep at night knowing a driver isn't gonna screw up my bread and butter freight.
Why 1099? A good driver is gonna think, man what else is he short changing. If nothing else get em on the books at least. It will be a revolving door if you don't. And probably some unhappy customers too.Coffey, blacklabel and Dale thompson Thank this. -
Gentlemen think about the big differences between obtaining W2 vs Contractors (1099) employees. W2 is not an option at this time.

Wow not only does 1099 leave you exposed legally , it sets up your drivers for thier own problems in the future.
I have 8 trucks now and zero turnover , I only hire as I add truck s , w2 means work comp. I understand for me work comp costs are double occ acc, but for my guys it means if something happens they are covered , in Kansas even for covid 19. When I cought it was almost 500k in medical alone.with w2 you paying and sending off with holding taxs , with 1099 you are leaving a huge probability that your guys will get behind , do you see the trend here ? I look out to make sure what I am doing is bettering thier lives not setting them up for failure. They are home weekly or more. We as a company make it a point to care from birthday to anniversary gifts to bonus,s to fair pay etc , if all you care about is a quick buck that is all your drivers will care about and it will cost you.Dale thompson, Coffey, feldsforever and 6 others Thank this.
