Never really thought about stoping at dinner to ask for directions I'll keep that in my back pocket I have a cb don't hear to much on itD.Tibbitt, Matt1924, faux_maestro and 1 other person Thank this.

Nope, you're right, CB's dead & gone, along with most truck stop diner's, social interaction, and good personal conversations. Instead, we now have social distancing, hiding behind mask's, texting, hatred, and distrust for one another....D.Tibbitt, 650cat425, FoolsErrand and 2 others Thank this.

Google is not very reliable, it will show roads as going through, when in reality it is a dead end, has happened more than once, when you talk to people on the road, they tell you that it has been that way for years, and this was on the satellite view, I had dropped the load at a truckstop and bobtail ed to take a look, was glad I did. These loads are going to sites were no one is at, so calling is not doable, I still use it , to look the site over.Hammer will tell you it can't find route, although I do like its layout
Coffey Thanks this. -
I was surprised at how well Rand would route on dirt roads. Especially when there was more than one route to take, it always picked the best road, least evil choice anyway, it was strange.SteveScott and Coffey Thank this.

A guy that works at the local DOT road crew yard gave me a link to a state ArcGis map that has EVERY bridge & culvert in the state on it that they know about. It has come in handy more than once.
You can wiggle a trailer around to get around a corner you couldn't normal make. Also, if you were able to drive in, you should be able to back out.
A Rand GPS was useless hauling oil a few years ago. The nicest thing about it was the "trails" feature. It wouldn't ever use them though, just a visual.Coffey Thanks this. -
I'd be leery of trusting the CB today; if you're lucky you'll get a "f you" or some similar derogatory remark, if you're unlucky you'll get incorrect information to make them laugh. That is of course if they even have a cb/have it on.
Coffey Thanks this. -
W/o that I'd of been lost many times in the oilfield lolCoffey Thanks this.
