I think he is aware that is it going to take some time but if he doesn’t start now he never will get there.
I’m not sure where we went wrong to reach the point that everyone thinks they should start out driving a Pete and make $100K a year....I guess those “participation”ribbons in tee ball could be blamed.

Long road ahead for sure but you have got to appreciate those that are willing to take a risk and put forth the effort.

It can be done. I could have 2 Customers Direct if I wanted them. Even with only 1 Truck. I see different Brokers in both places. I could also get a Brokerage and Broker those Loads, just as a bunch of others are doing, including Landstar. It’s very possible. All depends on how much headache you’re willing to go through, to make the money.

if it works for you & your business, i won’t knock it. Being successful is what it’s all about.

I’ll be the 1st to admit waiting on checks to come in sucks. You can have $15-$20k out at any given time. And you have to keep up on it, know who owes what & when.

Replying to your second part. All part of being a business owner. I love getting $5,000/$7,5000,/$10,000 or more checks in at 1 time. (Been scarce lately) even better knowing it’s all mine and my future wife billed it and we waited on it all our own. Being independent to me means relying on nobody except for myself. And I take a little to much pride in it. I will rather go broke then pay some useless factoring company to get paid my own money. It truly makes me a Scratch my head. And I started with nothing, didn’t even use my credit card. Used the little capital I had left over from authority and ins down payment to float me the first couple months til checks rolled in steadily. Almost 5 years later here I am, never factored, never used quick pay. It’s more of a pride thing I guess. Maybe I’m a the fool.

Yep, I have taken some QP and still do if the percentage is very low but my business model is very centered around less hands in the cookie jar. This means I don't run as hard as some, maybe, because I run the back office too, by that I mean the only office in the back of this truck. I started this game at 45 but in about 20 years I'd really like to say never factored, never had an employee, never leased on, never got ahead of myself or too big for my britches.

I'm planning this blowout retirement party......of one.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Sorry for the threadjack Wes. Back to your topic. I think if you want to do it you should get after it. You can fail in trucking and come right back, not saying you would. You can make a grand or more tomorrow. That's what is great about it.

So what will you be able to offer customers as a broker, that every other broker who calls that customer can't offer? You do realize that shippers get a lot of calls from brokers who make a lot of promises, right? Not trying to bust your balls here, just trying to make you see that jumping into being a broker won't be as easy as you think it will be. Good salesmen are rare, and you have to be pretty good at it to convince customers to use your services, and you have to offer them something they can't get elsewhere.
