My company sends me into and out of Canada, sometimes loaded, sometimes empty, every time I cross the process seems different. One time I was chased down by CBP to pay “the fee”. Upon which I went inside the building on the Detroit side and paid like $13.40. The next time I was at a CBP booth and mentioned this he had me circle around to pay the toll at the same spot.
is there a way to pay before hitting what is essentially “the toll booths” upon stateside reentry? The guy said you can prepay per load and gave me a brochure pushing transponder.
I never have to pay anything regarding freight just bridge toll.
can somebody walk me through what they do? The web info is not easily found. Thanks.
Ambassador bridge fees without any transponder and not getting one. Help

It's the charge US customs makes on each crossing. My annual fee is a little over 500 Canadian so prob 400 US. and it gets you a chip detector for the windscreen so they know you paid as you drive up. Unless you're making a lot of trips you're better off paying individual trips like you are. Some booths can take cash although maybe not right now and occasionally you'll get told to have a nice day and just go. Detroit is the worst if you have to pay as it's always such a delay, Port Huron is faster with more chance of being let off the fee!

Get your company to pay it online at the customs site and send you a copy of receipt just in case.. many border stations won’t accept cash at booth only credit cards so you need to go inside and wait your turn..

If you run in and out enough, see about the company paying for it. Being in dtops is way faster. Soon as you hit the booth, the transponder brings up your info, and if you have fast pass your picture pops up too. If Im empty, usually they just ask for your plate number and last 4 digits of the trip number and good to go but I also cross in and out once a day, some times twice. It all just expedites your crossing.

Can I ask about that custom stop on the Canada side to the right hand side off Tecumseh is it ? Is there a need to stop there if you have a PARS with inbound freight? All that construction had trucks all bottlenecks there. Didn’t see a one make that turn.

No clue. I cross at blue water bridge since ambassador doesn't allow hazmat.
