Prime - Only newbies sing the praises

As you say, the facts speak for themselves. I make decent money, don't have the problems you cite. I talk to plenty of other drivers - they don't have the problems you cite. Every large trucking company needs a supply of fresh bodies, because with 4000+ CDL license holders, you have to have folks coming in to replace those who leave for whatever reason.... too many tickets, medical problems, personal problems, grass is greener elsewhere syndrome, etc.

So what's your point Laworst? That you're an internet troll? My experience with Prime has been positive for quite awhile now, and fortunately I haven't run across any folks who are having problems with this company like what you are describing. Its really tough for solo lease guys right now, but it is most everywhere - and frankly, that's what I tell anyone thinking of leasing a truck.

 

Uggh... What personal information? My FM showed me his weekly milage. As a company driver, I doubt the guy has any rights to privacy on how many miles he is dispatched per week.

Get your facts straight about training... Taking on a STUDENT gets a L/O $300 a week and then the $500 bonus for passing the test... All the while covering the STUDENT'S workman comp coverage. They run solo freight, and the L/O is making whateve the freight rate applied to the load... there is an small adavantage that STUDENT trucks have a higher re-load priority.

Keeping them as a TRAINEE has the adavantage of running team freight with team freight rates, and the L/O PAYS his TRAINEE from his settlements. .12/mile or $600, whichever is greater... Kind of like having a co-driver at a slave wage. If the Trainer decided to go home for a few days, and the Trainee stays on the truck, then the Trainer still has to pay him that minnimum $600.

Get YOUR facts straight... because they DONT speak for themselves... and false facts dont prove anything... Who is the "misdirection agent" agent now?

Every L/O at Prime is in the position they are in because they chose to... whether they are doing well or doing bad... They did not have to sign that lease. The greed factor...

take it safe and collect a steady lower paycheck as a company driver with all the rules and limitations,

or take the risk and collect potential profits that can exceed that company driver check... without the rules

There have always been drivers that couldn cut it under the Prime lease model... alot more nowadays... but there are still quite a few who tout success....The Prime lease model hasnt changed over the last couple years... Then what has? The economy, Freight rates and availability.

 

It's interesting how you choose to exclude other facts such as: COMPANY drivers relying on trainees for income. And company drivers do not pay any out of pocket expenses for the trainee.

Im not relying on a trainee for income, I was doing great before I took a trainee... Im taking advantage of a situation. A little more money, increased visits to California where I can stop in and see a dozen relatives without taking hometime... Prime as a rule trys not to send Solos into CA.

The cost to me, what? a couple days training in Springfield....Sharing my knowledge and space with a guy that wants to be a company driver and has no intrest in leasing....

I seem to remember some claims of drivers being forced to Lease. If that was true, whats he doing with me?

For team miles I get .41 cents per mile minus the .12 to the trainee... plus .10 per mile for each mile over 3500. Tack on my usual fuel bonus and its some pretty good extra dough not to take advantage of.

Can you break it to my trainee that from here on out, I am not going to be paying any out of pocket expenses for him because you said so... He's going to have to stay in the truck when I decide to get a hotel room, Im going to stop picking up his sit down meal tab once or twice a week... also, he cant have the extra Heavy duty lock set I have to give him when he is done. He's here on the forum... can you handle that for me?

You moved your family to a real town making real dough? Maybe you are making real dough... good for you.

But as to a "real town"? Fresno is the armpit of California... I should know, I grew up there. You must be breathing the brown air there a little to deep and depriving your brain of oxygen.

What do you get there?... maybe 12 days a year the air quality index is below the "unhealthy" alert.

Did i read this right? You are paying the trainee .12CPM out of YOUR pay? So you are paying Prime to train a guy for them?

 

I get paid at the rate of a Full Company Team with my level of milage (raises) it is .415/mile empty and loaded miles.... plus .10/mile for every mile over 3500 and up to .04/mile fuel bonus.

A Company Team with 2 drivers would split this amount 50/50.

he calculate the full amount for a team, then minus .12/mile to the trainee... and the trainee gets a 40% cut of my fuel bonus...

If my Fleet Manager fails to get us more than 5k team miles or I take hometime, the trainee gets his minnimum $600 FROM Prime if he is available for dispatch all 7 days of that particular pay period... ie. if he goes home for home time he doesnt get the minnimum, just the .12 for the miles while on the truck. If I go home, and he doesnt (basically camps out in the truck) he still gets paid but not from me... I earned those hometime days and do not get penalized for using them.

Normally as a solo driver I get .355 cents per mile, plus up to .04/mile fuel bonus...

rough number math and not including the bonuses... base pay is compared at .335 x 2.5k-3k miles solo versus .295 x 5.5k-6k miles team.

I have averaged almost 5k miles per week over the last 3 weeks... 5300, 6400, 3200.

I was averaging about 2700-2800 solo.

Sounds like good news for the trainee, most companies only pay them salary of around 300.00 per week.. But potentially bad news for the trainer.. I guess it depends on how you like to run, ultimately.
