I was recently diagnosed with diabetes (due to family history, I have been expecting that for more than 30 years) and high blood pressure.
That said, I am under the care of a primary physician to manage the issues. Unfortunately, due to how my health plan is set up, he is not authorized to sign off on the official documents for the DOT exam.... I have to be referred to "occupational health" for that. No biggie.
I found the document online that can be filled out electronically (I didn't get into this because I have great penmanship, so I prefer to type things out as much as possible).
On the document, there is a field to list medications I have been prescribed, that is pretty self explanatory. There is also a field where you describe any issues. In this field, I put in a statement that reads that I am under a doctor's care to manage these issues, and list his name and contact info. Is it okay to have him sign off on that statement?

Not sure about your question but as far as the diabetes is concerned it is 100% curable, look into the Keto diet it absolutely works to get rid of diabetes. If you go here https://letstruck.com/ thy have a ton of information on it. Good Luck
scott180 Thanks this. -
Type 2? You can rid yourself of that in a few months with a little dedication and work. BP? Will go hand-in-hand with the changes you made to get your diabetes under control. Go in and take a re-exam and you’d be good to go. You got a put the cake down and exercise and get serious. I’ve seen countless people do it.
if you go the medication route, You’ll probably be dead in five years or less, but yeah they can control it. However, you’ll have trouble getting a CDL while being diagnosed diabetic. High blood pressure they give you a year at a time as long as you’re on meds. -
Many companies won't hire you with diabetes even if you have it under control on medication.
It's perfectly legal for a company to do this.
Work hard on diet and exercise so your blood sugar is normal. This way, you don't have diabetes, so won't have to list it.
You'll only get a 12 month DOT medical card with Type 2 diabetes, but with no diabetes you get a 2 year card.nredfor88 and BigDog Trucker Thank this. -

veey “curable”
now type 1, That’s caused by the insulin deficiency, and that’s a different story. -
It appears you are talking about diabetes going into remission, which is not a cure. Diseases that go into remission can return. That’s not the same thing as a cure.Rideandrepair, SilverBulletBand and snowwy Thank this. -
I can only imagine your thoughts on real medicine -

Can diabetes be cured?
Even though there's no diabetes cure, diabetes can be treated and controlled, and some people may go into remission. To manage diabetes effectively, you need to do the following: Manage your blood sugar levels.
Can diabetes be cured permanently?
Although there's no cure for type 2 diabetes, studies show it's possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease.
And that's THAT.JAYROK, Rideandrepair, SilverBulletBand and 1 other person Thank this. -
