Boss I'm on a 5 day cruise in the Caribbean. How am I supposed to get the drug test done in 2 hours? Does the ships doctor qualify?

This LINK is to a pdf with some great information about the testing procedures.

That 2-hour thing is a myth. This is clearly stated on page 19 of the above link The rule is ONCE NOTIFIED you GO right then to test. There is no rule in part 40 that says a carrier is prohibited from calling you to test while off duty or at home. I have been called at home to test many times. The only thing they can't do is require you to "blow" while off duty. Thankfully most carriers won't call you to test while offduty or at home. They are instructed to hold onto your name for testing until you get back on duty. However, this testing MUST be finished by the end of that testing period. I honestly forgot how long that period is, it is either 30 or 90 days.

This LINK goes into what the C/TPA is and has some links.

I didn't say it was logical or even right. It just is.

In that situation, the carrier might attempt to notify you. As I stated in post 12, the carrier will be forced to hold on to your name until you get back on duty. If I understand it you can't operate a CDL vehicle until you test. Again carriers handle these things differently. You should notify the safety dept of your inability to test. I might also add that there is a difference between "hometime" and being away from home on "vacation" In fact if I were going on a cruise I would not even have my cell phone on. Like I said in post 3, don't over complicate this testing.

Notified while off duty, With the virus, some are not doing it now. Went on duty got it done, the 2 hours time limit could be a problem in some parts of the Country

Don't forget to study for your drug test.
This guy I worked with had retired for 4 months, said he was bored, and came back.
They used to pick him often, as being over 70 - he was a sure pass; unlike the basement dwellers.
Surprise, he was hot for Oxys, and could not come up with a current script.
Had gotten them legit years ago, for a shoulder injury, and thought nothing of it.
    Now he's bored again.

    Just a couple thoughts ...

When I get the notice for a random for a driver, my policy is that if they are under load, on their 10 or 34, they don't get called. I give them a heads up but no official notification,

For that driver, i or my staff has 30 days to get it done, it can be done on the last day to complie with the regs.

And now they are doubling the required drug tests. If your getting pulled in for one every 6 months, now it will be 3.
