My gooseneck trailer is currently leaf spring. If I add air bags does that mean I can haul air ride only freight? Or is it necessary to ditch the leaf springs and have ONLY air bags on the trailer?

"Air ride freight only", by gar, that's a new one.:laughing-guffaw: Air bags have the same rating as leaf springs, with none of the hassle. I wouldn't drive a spring ride anything today.

There’s freight where it’s required the trailer be air ride. My question is, does the addition of air bags with leaf springs qualify, or would the trailer have to be air bags ONLY?

From a technical standpoint, adding airbags on top of regular leaf springs won't really change the ride quality much, if at all. Might keep the trailer from squatting when loaded, possibly make the ride even harsher since you'd be adding more "spring" capacity.

I think they’d want air only. Air ride is quite a bit smoother riding.

IDK, things have sure changed. I hauled eggs with spring ride wagons. I knew some tried that air bags over springs, was a waste of money. I didn't notice any ride difference. I think someone is hosing you, I never heard of "air ride freight".

Unless you have a steady stream of air ride freight your time of ROI would take awhile.

As a shipper, I used to ship a lot of semiconductor equipment. Always Air Ride. Airbags only, no leaf springs. Sensitive stuff. Hope this helps.
