    Big Trouble in Little China.

.....and actually, the quote is "when some wild-eyed, 8 ft. tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks ya crooked in the eye and he asks ya if ya paid your dues.....just stare that big sucker right back in the eye and you remember what 'ole Jack Burton says at a time like that, 'Have ya paid your dues, Jack?'....'Yessir, the check is in the mail'".

Jack Burton, played by that All American Trucker, Kurt Russell!!

He might be too young to remember that movie, Fozzy. Only old guys like us remember the 80's as our formative years. LMAO!

I made it to Wendover, NV and I'll have 6.75 hours on my 70 in the am. If the ground was flat in front of me I'm sure I could get far enough to make delivery on time, but I have 3 major mountains to go over, 2 tomorrow. No way I can make it on time. Sucks to be me. Not really, it's actually pretty cool to be me, but you wouldn't know that. But now you do because I just told you. Maybe I should go to bed soon....

Many folks make the mistake of thinking because they were told on the phone that they're good to go, and haven't heard anything since then, that they are all approved. I can tell you that at most of the larger companies the recruiter will look over your application and let you know if there is anything glaring or omitted. However.....the way they all work is that each Monday prior to the following Monday's class start, they go over all of the files for the next week in depth. I got calls asking for things they needed me to provide almost every day the week before I was to start. I've heard many people do.

My only advice is be patient and polite. And....once you get to the point that you have preliminary approval, you should still be in very regular contact with your recruiter (because other prospective students are) so that she knows you are all in. It's no different than any other job, you have to be persistent. That said, there is likely no big problem. They like to purchase bus tickets ahead of time because it's cheaper, just like airline flights. Because you live so far away, you really should've been on the horn with them week before last and all last week asking them where you bus ticket is? Now you are calling to confirm your bus ticket? If they haven't sent it to you, and trust me they don't use overnight shipping for students, you are already in a time crunch. So lets say you called today (which you did), and they say you're all good. Now they have to buy the bus ticket, and then ship you the voucher/ticket to wherever you are via snail mail, and you think you're on the bus with ticket in hand on Thursday? And you're in Maine, about as far from Texas as you can get on the mainland U.S.? No way.

Unless they already sent you the ticket, I'd say the only way you're starting in next Monday's class is if you offer to buy the ticket yourself and get reimbursed when you get there, or call her back today and tell her you will pay for overnight shipping, that you really need to start next Monday.

Now is the time you're going to have to be a little more aggressive to get what you want. Honestly, I doubt there is any huge problem, but you're kinda hosed on time if you want to start in 7 days and you have no bus ticket. Even if you have the ticket/voucher, that doesn't mean you won't still have to provide them with info the week of (very common) or that they might decide to push your start date back. Just hang in there and give them what they want. You'll be fine.

    Just had another thought, Hunter....

Have you actually logged onto Greyhound's site and entered your starting and ending locations and actually tried to "book" the ticket? Because I checked into taking the bus to Missoula, MT from home here in Dallas. I figured it would be a two day ride, something like that. The hours of traveling in the bus you've been told, unless you know this to be true, might only be actual "travel time". Usually coming that far, you're probably going to have to switch buses and make transfers a few times. I would be shocked if you can actually get from Maine to Dallas, Texas in 2 days on a Greyhound bus. I would think it would take much longer than that because of layovers and routing. Maybe that is what she meant by not being sure she can get you in that quickly.

I'd get back on the phone with her and ask her WHY it is she thinks she can't get you in Monday? There is a big difference between your app not being ok, and her not thinking she has enought time to get you a bus ticket and you to arrive.

They actually give you a confirmation # that you take to the station and they issue the ticket then. This load came from OH, Bunch of pasta for Campbells Soups. This time zone crud is kicking my butt, I forgot I pick up an extra 2 hours out on the west coast, so I have plenty of time to make an on-time delivery. I am sitting in Fernley, NV taking my 10. I'll have to roll around 2 am Central time and get there a couple of hours early at least.
