When I was otr my approach as many OO's with authority was to always go where the good load takes me. Retired now thinking about getting an RV to get back otr, destinations escape me since the money pointed me where to go, always to places I would have never thought of going and always an enjoyable adventure (except Brooklyn, Austin, Houston curb hopping, etc).
Still have my authority and a driver car hauler in place I am thinking about buying a 40' RV and using it commercially to haul one car when a good load appears. It would give me a destination and earn something to pay for the fuel as well as carry bicycle or dirt bike, etc. and so on.
Does anyone know of anyone who is doing or tried this? What are the opinions of them insurance and other factors I am missing? Could I do this non commercially if commercial costs kill the revenue? Any opinions will be well received.

Insurance for new entrants is exorbitant right now. And the idiots have the load board rates in the toilet. If you're just going at it to make a little spare change, you might do all right, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

I did meet some interesting folks, dragging old cars out of barns that hadn't seen the light of day in 20 years but it's definately a just for fun deal.
Insurance is, as always, the bugaboo.

BTW, motorcycles can pay very well, your idea is doable and may work well once you develop a customer base. I had an antique car guy who would wait for weeks for me to pick things up for him
