1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Thanks for the info on TA & swift. Just talked to the recruiter for TA again. After doing all paperwork and stuff they figured out i live 6 miles out of there hiring area. Guess that makes my choice easier. What kind of miles do you get from swift? How often do you get home. I am trying to decide if I should even bother with driving. I do have a job as a machinist but business has been very down lately. I was just thinking maybe I should jump ship while there were some lifeboats left. Any info you guys can give is well appreciated, thank you

How many miles you getting at swift? Are they good for getting you home? I know a lot of these big companies are only good for getting experience, I'd just like to know what I'm in for.

Holy cow they won't hire cause you live a whopping 6 miles out of their hiring area? That's a stretch on their part. 6 miles is not that big of a difference. That's awful nit picky on Trans Am's part:biggrin_2551:

Yeah, if you drive OTR, you will get home once a month (maybe) and when you DO get home, you MIGHT get 2 solid days off. I run regional (GLR) right now, and was told by my DM that i'd be home every weekend. Now knowing my paycheck is based upon miles i drive, i would rather be home every other weekend. Not to mention once in a while i get to pass thru my hometown, and get to have lunch/dinner with the family...so i'm happy with that.

I'd say whatever you do, dont turn down a single load, dont get a single service failure, dont screw up in anyway, and in 2-3 months, you should be a standout on your DMs board.

Sounds like Transam to me. They have been getting pretty picky lately on all sorts of stuff. We have to get PO #'s now for dern near everything including scale tickets. Also have to fax in copies of the BOL if it doesn't match what they "think" it ought to be.

Trying to decide whether to offer you condolences or congratulations on missing out on TA.

Wow it's changed quite a bit since I left in late 2003. Hell back then company trucks could go 70mph and we didn't go west of Interstate 25. I knew things were changing for the bad though when they cancelled out all their charge accounts with lumper services and then told us to us our truck expense money which was fine when it was 300 a week. Not even two weeks later they knocked it down to 150.

Johnny is no longer running the company and has turned the reins over to the bean counter Russ. From the former drivers I've talked to, this used to be a "drivers" type of company. No more. Johnny is aware of the problems but doesn't really care enough to take control back. Enjoys being retired to much. Also is double dipping now that he or rahter I should say his wife, is in partnership with the local KW dealership. He makes moeny now either way.
