Not always, I signed up for company training when I started 14 years ago and had it all paid off in 18 months, and then I upgraded to a better company. You just have to have the mindset to finish what you started and keep on to realize your goals.
Where to begin in NY?

Let me get this straight...So you worked for Swift for 13 months AND you still ended up paying $1950 out of pocket?TokyoJoe Thanks this.

Of course there are no absolutes. But with the exception of ONE guy, every single other person I spoke to, and have spoken to over the years, told me nothing but horror stories about their school(s). And as for having the mindset to finish what you started, I agree that one has to have commitment. But anything can happen, especially in the OP's case. For example, let's say she decided to go to Stevens to take advantage of their "free" school. Then life smacks her upside the head for whatever reason and she has to leave. Steven's will then hire lawyers to come after her for the "balance" of her tuition. For the bargain settlement price of $13K because they sent it to collections. I know this because I knew someone at Stevens who went through this. Forget the fact that these "schools" are subsidized to the tune of $5000 (more or less) per student by the Federal Government. Pretty cool huh?

Yes, Half of the $3900 tuition. How is that any different than paying Joe Bob's School of Truck Driving $7000 up front, or with a high interest loan and paying it back over 2 or 3 or 5 years?
-
So you paid Swift $1950 for the "honor and privilege" to work for them for a year? For slave wages? I'm sorry amigo, but "you was taken to the slaughterhouse!" If the whole thing would have been free, albeit they are the dregs of the industry, I could understand your "passion".
And NO, it's no different than Joe Bob's School of Truck Driving---they are both shams.Last edited: Jun 29, 2020
TokyoJoe Thanks this. -
Almost FOUR GRAND to train with a company that is arguably the bottom of the barrel. And the fact that they were also payed by the Feds makes me want to upchuck my cheerios!TokyoJoe and Jerry Rigs Thank this.

You'll make a lot more than $30K since you're a hard worker.
More like $50K - $60K. -
I have no opinion on company training vs school since I only did 1... DO NOT go to roehl if you can possibly help it. I mean if you have to work a street corner for a few months to pay for private school it's less prostitution than the 12 months of gas lighting degradation and harassment. And yes I left. Yes they want 6500$....I'd leave again if I had to do it again...
Western flyer and gekko1323 Thank this. -
Thank you for validating my point of view. Have they sued you yet?

Oh I have a judgement. It's on my credit report. Still worth it. Horrible doesn't even begin to tell you how they operate.
Schneider on the other hand is a really nice company. Kinda uptight but friendly. I bet they have a good training program
