    Hi,

Does anyone have a link that’ll help me understand the ins and outs of the HOS regulations? I’m pretty pissed because I’m sitting on the shoulder with no time to drive; I’ve spent most of today off duty waiting to get unloaded/loaded and about 2 hours on duty and I only drove about 130 miles which took 3 hours at most and I simply have no idea where I went wrong. Does off duty count towards your 14 hours? Because a guy I met the other day told me it does when I called him (he told me to use personal conveyance to get to the pilot down 30 minutes down the road, asked him if that was against regulation and he said I could get a fine so screw that), I always thought it didn’t but apparently I’m paying for my ignorance right now.

    Best regards, John

Dude, definitely put it on Personal Conveyance and go park somewhere that isnt a shoulder. Your just asking for trouble staying parked where your at.

I think you said you washed out of training twice, then made it through training with a third company. Do I have that right? What did your training actually cover? How did you get your license? Not one person told you anything about HOS through all that? I'm sure there's some sort of split sleeper exception, but I've always lived by the rule that once your 14 starts there's no stopping it.

I’m gonna leave this here and let you read it a couple of times. See if it’ll make sense

you have a 14 hour clock
    11 hours driving
3 hours to fuel and breaks

if you spent 3 hours of your “free” time on the dock. Then where does the clock start eating your hours from?
I still run paper logs never ran an eld so I don’t know 100 percent your side.

but legally you can drive on personal convenience to get to a “safe haven”

650cat425, Coffey and farmerjohn64 Thank this.

Dude it’s been a long day and I’m not in a good mood, I’m not interested in answering your question with that tone

I get it now, thank you; HOS was barely covered throughout my length of training

Get off the shoulder and get to a safe place, logs be ######. Any cop worth half his salt would rather see you fudge the PC rule a little than stay parked on the shoulder and cause a pile up.

There was nowhere for me to park, I just left the shipper and I’ve been driving on these long backroads, nearest truck stop is 40 minutes out
